@Cyclops Fair point. Experience to me, is coaching different groups of players and in different systems.

    That's a good definition.

@taniwharugby You'd certainly hope so - but, I've read reports saying that Scott Johnson has already told Wallabies staff that Rennie has the job.

@Chris-B maybe he's doing it as a way to pressure NZR into not appointing him...although NZR surely would check with Rennie first, given there hasnt been any official announcement from AR or Rennie has there?

@taniwharugby No - and to be fair Chieka's seat is still warm. Hard to see that they would have run any sort of open recruitment process while he was still in place and without it being common knowledge.

@sparky Why would you pick players that still need coaching in rugby skills? They are All Blacks so you would expect them to have those bases covered before getting selected thus no need to have a Specialist Coach Skills apointee.

@Higgins Because even excellent players can be coached to be better. Look at the job Eddie Jones and his large team of coaches have done with the England players in the last four years.

I'd like to see Razor, just cause I want to see a little shake up and he is probably the most diverse.

But when do the name the candidates or do they?

                  Thursday?

I agree with what Mains had to say there

To me Robertson is a good candidate for an assistant coach. I don't want him for the head coach for the reasons Mains describes.

I can never take mains seriously. Just about the worst winning percentage of any recent AB coach. Including losing to that world XV at home. Not to mentio the French in 1994.

Foster would obviously be a continuation of the current selections/tactics. Robertson would probably be the next closest.

I think every other candidate would make more significant changes.

What do you mean by most 'diverse'? Robertson would have the most narrow cv?

Gatland would be my dream ticket with Brown as attack coach, and Robertson as forwards coach (and as apprentice to take over from Gatland in head role after 2023).

Let Gatland take a sabbatical during his British Lions year, and Robertson steps up for a year as job experience bonus.

I dont think theres any coaching IP left to be worried about Gatland taking with him on his sabbatical.

See I don’t really mind that. Maybe I’ve been living in OZ too long and Eddie’s just doing what Eddie does (and many Aussie coaches would respond). But a bit of colour in return when someone has taken a swipe isn’t that bad.

It's more common in the NH too. I think some coaches like to take the pressure off the players by making the enormous media concentrate on them.

For instance, Hansen was a complete twat when he coached Wales and it seemed like he was forcing controversy with every comment

Being passionate is one thing. Acting like a soccer manager is another.

Loathe this sort of stuff no matter where it comes from.

It's more common in the NH too. I think some coaches like to take the pressure off the players by making the enormous media concentrate on them.

For instance, Hansen was a complete twat when he coached Wales and it seemed like he was forcing controversy with every comment

Maybe. But I'm thinking "Big ego....look at me!"

I'd like to see Razor, just cause I want to see a little shake up and he is probably the most diverse.

Foster would obviously be a continuation of the current selections/tactics. Robertson would probably be the next closest.

I think every other candidate would make more significant changes.

What do you mean by most 'diverse'? Robertson would have the most narrow cv?

He lives in a different part of Christchurch than Hansen.

                                          Recent comments from Rennie:

“Probably the easiest way to clarify this is that I know there’s lots of speculation in the media that I’ve already signed [a contract with Australia] and people have been informed and all this sort of stuff,” he said. "That’s not accurate. I haven’t signed, and I will definitely be here till the end of this season, which is the end of June (2020).

“I’ll just reiterate: regardless of what happens to me beyond this season, I’m here for the full season. It’s important to me. I’m committed to the Warriors and I won’t leave earlier.” Asked whether he would be interested in coaching the Wallabies, Rennie said he would jump at the chance. "Yeah, I think we’ve discussed this before, so yeah, absolutely," he said. "I guess what I’m implying is there’s lots of talk about this and I’m already committed [to Glasgow], you know. There’s a lot of speculation, as there has been for months.”

So there appears to be no reason why he couldn't throw his name into the hat for the ABs.
