    Thanks guys.

Did know what it means (but not the actual acronym).

My confusion was more about how being teased for having a passport of seeming convenience was in anyway racial.

I suspect Wags has copped shit for his emigration.

John Mitchell's son comes into the team with Ferguson

Is Mitch Jr. a good enough bowler at test level to be a like-for-like replacement for Colin?

I'd have thought Jimmy Neesham might have been further up the queue.

Have my doubts re Mitchell. I just assumed Neesham was injured again.

I know it would upset our bowling plans but I'd be tempted to bring in Ferg for Boult and Young for De Grandhomme.

Especially if there are signs that the Hamilton pitch might turn, and Kane can take on the role of second spinner to further reduce the workload of our the seamers.

Northern Districts allrounder Daryl Mitchell has been confirmed to make his Black Caps test debut at Hamilton on Thursday.

Ross Taylor said at a press conference on Thursday that Mitchell - the son of former All Blacks coach John Mitchell - will be part of the New Zealand XI to face England in the second test. Mitchell was called into the squad this week following an abdominal injury to Colin de Grandhomme suffered late in the first test victory in Mount Maunganui.

A decision has yet to be made on who will replace injured pace bowler Trent Boult in the XI for the second and final test in the series. With Mitchell's inclusion confirmed, it will come down to a choice between swing bowler Matt Henry and quick Lockie Ferguson.

Sigh, stupid facts getting in the way of a good plan.

Darryl Mitchell feels like a nothing selection. No disrespect to the guy, but I'm not convinced he's good enough at either discipline to play test cricket.

About three years ago a was saying the same thing about Colin de Grandhomme though, so here's hoping the selectors are right again.

Watling gets rated at 693 for his 205 against England attack while Stokes gets a rating of 704 for his 91. I guess strength of opposing attack and home ground really is a huge factor there

The ratings are based on more than just the last innings. So his 91 presumably boosted his rating less than Watling's 205 boosted his.

Looks like Stokes was on 685 before the test started and Watling was on 620. So 73 point gain for Watling and a 20 point gain for Stokes. Roughly three and half times better.

Looking at the rankings has made me realise that despite our CWC performances, short form cricket is actually our weaker suit by a fair margin. Outside of Kane and Ross, none of our batsmen rank particularly highly, whereas in tests we have Latham, Nicholls and Watling all in the top twenty. And at this point Kane and Ross are both much stronger performers in the longer format (more so Ross than Kane, who is world class in both).

Our bowling is relatively even, where the loss of Wagner is offset by the presence of Ferguson.

@Cyclops agree, particularly at opener and 5. Raval and Nicholls are both solid test players, but we've really struggled to find an opener to replace BMac and a decent #5 in ODIs. That said, the quality of Williamson and Taylor has masked that a bit and our middle order hitters can win ODIs with a quick 100 between them, which is usually less useful in tests.

@Machpants I almost went there ... never gets old.

Anyway, the team is as Daryl Mitchell and Matt Henry coming in for TB and CDG.

                                I'd still have taken Lockie

England drop Leach for Chris Woakes, they now have 5 seamers. Strengthens their batting too. Pope will keep. This is his fifth first class game keeping wicket.

I probably would have preferred Ferg over Henry, but I get why Henry is preferred. Ferg has never lead a black caps attack and he's best eased in to test cricket as a 3/4 option. That said, Ferg is likely to be very effective in Aus.
