Jordie Barrett showed his range of skills. He must be a probability for the AB squad when it is eventually named.

Yeah, if he carries on like this he's a shoe in.

McKenzie on the other hand is at a real risk of missing out if he continues with his current vein of form.

With Havili, Jordan and Barrett I really can't see the need eh.

Third halfback on the other hand....

He could do worse than converting himself into a Francois Hougaard-like halfback / outside back...

With the current state of halfbacks he doesn't even need to play there almost! Just mention he's thought about it. Boom, in the squad.

        If Barrett at 10, I’d go 15-Jordan, 14-Reece, 11-Ioane

        If Barrett at 15, I’d go 10-Mo’unga, 11-Ioane, 14-Reece or Jordan

        Midfield is ALB/Goodhue or Luamape/Goodhue

It might be a year early for Clarke with the limited test opportunities.

I'm deeply concerned you haven't gone for best winger in the country as voted by the players Mr Bridge on the wing. Has the Covid got you?

@Chris-B if they are all in NZ, they probably dont even need 31?

If they're all in NZ, it will be cheap to get more in. Big squad, enough to play 15v15 with reserves. Get newbies into the environment etc.

Bit controversial perhaps, but Goodhue seems to be a lock at 13 in most peoples selections. Parking just for a second the viable alternatives, am I alone in thinking that he is a a touch overrated at the moment?

He generally plays pretty mistake-free solid rugby, and I know that's a great start at 13. But when I hear him spoken about as the next Conrad, I just haven't seen it. He doesn't hit as hard, he doesn't distribute as well, and I'm not sure he has the same support game. He looks solid enough hitting the ball up when nothing is on, but I've never really seen him make clean breaks, or do anything inventive to put someone in space.

Am I totally off the mark and missing his brilliance?

@voodoo the game against the Boks in Wellington (last year or the year before) he was simply immense on defence. Played remarkably, and absolutely dominated some big Saffer backs. Super form isn't a good predictor of International form - different demands, differnet levels.

@nzzp sure, I'm not really talking about his Super form this year, more his body of work in black. Has it really been that impressive? Last RWC for example?

Again, it's his work in black I'm asking about, not watching him pass a nice inside ball when up 40 against the Sunwolves. He is the incumbant 13, and I'm not advocating for anyone over him. I'm just not sure he has delivered on the hype over him.

That 15m pass off his left in that clip was sweet though.

But yeah, he's definitely delivered in black. Quieter year last year but then who can blame him with the fucken midfield merry-go-round. If he stops getting fucked around in the midfield we might see him back to his best.

But mistake free, solid, intelligent rugby with good defence is exactly what Conrad was good at wasn’t it?

Goodhue is the closest to those things that we have had since Conrad left.

I think what we haven't seen as a strength of Goodhue is the vision that Conrad had. He was like a quality 10s brain in the body of a centre.

Don't see it with any others though either.

@voodoo I know you are not talking Super form, but I think a great example of what he brings is his contribution to Jordan's chip and chase try on the weekend. He did what he did with minimal fuss and flamboyance, but he quickly drew in two defenders before a nicely timed pass. When he does stuff like that it looks so easy, therefore it can escape people's attention.

I have a mate that says the same thing about Goodhue. He doesn't see the fuss. I agree last year was not his best, but like someone else said he was mucked around by coaches who couldn't settle on a combination.

And comparing him to Smith, how old was Smith before we all started fornicating over him?

@voodoo the crusaders are fucking him over at 12 where he looks like a journeyman. He's an excellent 13, very smart player and creates so much more.

Is there a version of that video without the potato codec?

I get the feeling you think you're talking to someone with at least some intelligence. Jokes on you, you couldn't be more wrong.

The 13 jersey should be for Goodhue or Rieko Ioane. I know the latter is considered by many as a left wing but his last performances there in black were disappointing. He seems to have lost his former speed. Moreover, with Clarke and Telea (formerly a left wing with NH and the Blues) in outstanding form, there are exciting options for the 11 jersey. And I did not even mentioned Fainganu'uku nor Alaimalo.

He had a calf injury that caused him to miss SR games and AB Tests. His training was restricted throughout the international season

Not only that, following on from the greatest AB midfield combo ever was always gonna be tough. As fans are our standards that ridiculously high ? It’s a good thing the food bills from last year have gone and simplified things.
