AB squad for the Bledisloe Cup?

@Tim Ha ha! And who can blame them for not wanting to go.
Can the RC and let's have the strongest NPC we will see in decades.

I really like that. The rugby so far has been good. The players get to stay at home. We have less risk off Covid infection (another discussion, a closed border is, well, closed) locking us down again would be fucked and mean that everything that we have done is a waste of time, again.
Local passion for the NPC games seem to be high. Let the Aussies have the RC, stay here.
Money will come into it of course, but if we can get crowds to NPC then it might not be too different for the unions anyway. How much would NZRU suffer?
I love the All Blacks and international rugby, but I can live with a year off and enjoy the NPC.

this is all assuming the Argies can cobble together a team? Surely if they pull the pin, it impacts all, or do NZ, SA & Aus carry on?

I don’t think it will make a difference, but could mean shorter tours for NZ.
IE Week 1 and 2 Oz vs NZ (Bled 3 and 4), Boks train
Week 3 NZ vs SA
Week 4 Oz vs SA
Week 5 NZ vs SA then home in time for XMas
Week 6 Oz vs SAThat gives SA more time to train and get players back from NH. TBH with the mess Arg is, better to do Tri this year anyway

Watching all the ABs running out for the provinces is great, let them play!

@Kirwan He and Jordie Barrett are in the squad already, but I meant which are the two specialists who would be brought in?
3 specialists, I reckon, for extended 46 player squad!
@Machpants So, Mitch Hunt as well?

Same here. I can handle the year after a WC year in an extraordinary situation of having a year with no test matches.
I thought we would get towelled on Saturday but watched it and it and was pleasantly surprised at the level of skill. from both teams. Having AB's there day in and day out at training can only help.
You are still going to have the rubbish like Hawkes Bay/Southland/Manawatu and Northland but the rest looks very entertaining.

I’d guess so, who knows when you’re looking at the bottom end of the pecking order!
Hopefully they grow a pair and accept the time away. 10 weeks, B’days, XMas’, NY etc been there done that and was getting shot at whilst doing it!

Perhaps the stars are aligning for us to lose the Bledisloe????
Rennie as the coach, we have Foster.
Both games in Oz = their home advantage
Loss of key players but they are full strength.@Frank I thought the 1st 2 Bled games were in NZ mid-October?

Imagine how you'd feel if you opted out, and then NZ lost the Bledisloe. The pain would be super brutal.
I'm going to sound old school here, but I think the player should be going, and it needs to be something really significant to not go. Having a young family isn't enough. These boys are paid at the level of CEO, there are obligations that come with that money. This isn't a moral question to me, it's a tradeoff. BB is the only one who may get a pass - having an incoming baby is a different beast; that's a real risk to health. But the rest - need a damn good reason to not get out and do your job.

@nzzp yeah was reading the article as it is a tight turnaround from quarantine to play and then next game...still more spanners out there.

I don't mind them staying with their families , but they need to take a MASSIVE pay cut for not playing the games we need them in. Otherwise, what is the fucking point.
Then we'll see how important family considerations are.
I predict the wives will kick them out to play. -

@Frank In a normal year they would be away for 5 weeks anyway on the EOYT. A couple of extra weeks is not too much to ask for given the circumstances.

Aren't they saying it will be ten weeks under the current arrangement?

@Hooroo You might be right but I still think an extra 5 weeks is something that is not too much to ask for considering how much of additional time they have been able to spend with their families already due to the lockdowns and domestic games.
The irony is in 20 years time a lot of these guys would welcome the time away from home
