500 up, lead is past 200.

I don't buy the "nobody showed us how to convert 50s to 100s", sounds like poppycock to me. Cricketers are very stats-obsessed, no way were they especially satisfied with 70s and 80s.

It would be a weird thing to lie about?

I believe they said it, I just don't think it deserves to be a thing. The Black Caps before them all knew the value of centuries and crease occupation, and his conversion rate is one of the reasons Crowe is so revered (17 centuries, 18 50s).

I think they are referring to the coaching/guidance they got coming up through the grades. That is what I witnessed first hand. Not just talking about the elite coaching, but also including club and school coaching. Game management wasn't something that they were held accountable for back then, especially as they were coming through. It is something they had to learn at a higher level.

That makes more sense - Macca's head of cricket at high school was acknowledged as very good (he has just retired, but Steve Garland of Shirley BHS in Chch - other notable alumni were Gary Stead, Nathan Astle and Michael Papps), but I could easily see provincial and youth structures being mostly about skills coaching and conditioning, and not much about tactical and strategic nous.

Kane brings up his 4th double tonne, what a champ!

And in typical fashion no big fuss, a couple of waves of the bat then uses it to lean on waiting for the game to resume.

What's the go from here? Forecast is no rain tomorrow, but some rain on Thursday (Day 5), so do we just gun it and put them in with a 300 lead? Or just bat sensibly to make the lead impossibly massive?

I remember Crowe's footwork being amazing, and he played in an era of great fast bowling

                      Ice water in the veins...

This must be terribly morale-sapping for the Pakistanis, get what looks like a competitive score on day 1, have the BCs at 71/3, then the BCs put on 150 and 200 and now the game is basically gone.

I'd love to know watling's average when he comes in with less than 150 vs more than 300. He's the polar opposite of a flat track bully. Only scores runs in the toughest conditions. Combined that with being a super reliable keeper and he's low key one of the most important players in the team.

                              Not a bad patch...

Pakistan struggling a bit with discipline, a lot of extras.

Not as good as son of Mitch though, as I type their averages are:

                                    Mitchell 56.33
                                    Kane 54.47

                                    😉

                                      Was that another dropped catch?

Got it on silent (at work), so can't hear what the comms are saying.

Either way, Rizwan has been shite behind the stumps.

Nothing in the cricinfo commentary to suggest a drop.
