I have never drank a normal beer or lager, I've had a "desperado" not sure which it is but has tequila in and tasted OK.

@Crucial Fugazi is very drinkable but I don't think a 2.5% beer is a safe driving option. Police say one 4% 335 ml can an hour is maximum to stay under the limit. Drink two Fugazi in hour and you're over the limit.

Ice cold water is my drink. I'd rather have no alcohol than a shabby compromise.

That is so arbitrary though, a couple of months back I had four pretty strong ( 6-7% ) craft beers over a 90 minute period, I also smashed loads of chicken wings and wedges. My mate drove me home after and got breathalised as is typical leading up to Xmas, he was fine but I asked the cop to test me too for shits and giggs, I blew under. Certainly not a rule I want to live by and fuck taking risks and losing my license as that would seriously impact my life......but the point I'm making is one size doesn't fit all.

@Bones Jesus would you look at the state of that? A coir doormat on itheir head and a wispy little clump of pubes on their chin. If their name isn't Elliot and it's a training beard that's shameful.

@MN5 For sure. Weight makes a big difference It's a guideline though. My point was at 2.5% 'low' alcohol beers aren't necessarily the answer to avoiding going over the limit given our limits are based on 4%

Well it's more on "standard" drinks isn't it ? I remember about 15 years ago when Monteiths first released Winter Ale, it came it at a ( then ) staggering 6%. Fast forward to nowadays and no self respecting IPA/APA/Saison/Pale Ale/Porter/Stout or whatever will come in any less than that.

@Bones His time at Waikato overlapped with mine. I didn't know him though so can't comment on whether he had that abomination of a beard. I was gone from NZ by the time he became famous.

You are thinking about it the wrong way. It's a combo of how strong, how quick and how long you wait.

A unit is approx the amount the average person can process in an hour without the excess going into the blood and impairing

A 330ml 4% beer is 1 unit. Drink it in 10 minutes and you probably have about 55 minutes left until clear. Start on a second straight away and you are creating a backlog already. Even if you then slow down and after 2 hours have had 3 beers you still have a backlog and will need to wait.
Let's face it though, most beers are about 5% so even when you pace yourself you are getting behind. 2 beers in two hours and you are in the same place as the person that had 3 4%s
3 2.5%s in 2 hours though and technically you have only had 2 units and have about 0.1% left to process.
    Makes a big difference.
I would easily do a 6 pack over 4 hours with food and be very confident of not being over the limit, or even close to it.

I think that's a pretty good rule of thumb although not one I'm ever gonna risk to be honest. Just not worth it.
