    @canefan you're italian aren't you?

I'm a walking goddamn Americas Cup jinx. The Oracle comeback started when I started watching... the very 1st race i watched, we were about to win the whole thing, then ran out of time. Then.... I watched the rest, as we lost race, after race, after race.
And in this one, Wenerei, I missed race 1, went to pub, watched race 2. Today, watched race 1, missed the start of race 2... I'm just hoping this lead is enough to be jinx-proof.

By claiming to be a jinx, is the jinx reversed?
I think I've got red socks on too, but can't be bothered checking.

If we somehow manage to lose this one... definitely.

Barring a choke induced crash we are sweet. We can relax, Dean Barker is not on board

We start on the less favoured side, we overtake and win by 700m and change. Nice way to hold serve

One question, seeing as all of a sudden everybody's a sailing expert, hydro-mechanical guru, and wind physicist....
Is the unit ā€œknotā€ metric, or imperial?

I hope that's not how the remainder of the series goes. Seems a ludicrous amount of weight on winning the start.

Hopefully we move to another course over the weekend to make the races a little less predictable.

It's the TVNZ/Stevenson jinx we need to worry about. šŸ¤ž

Yeah, looked it up. It's imperial, but still commonly used as a standard as it lines up fairly well with longitude/latitude degrees/minutes/seconds.
    Or some bullshit.

@kruse yea there used to be a US nautical mile.

The length of the internationally agreed nautical mile isĀ 1852Ā m. The US adopted the international definition in 1954, having previously used the US nautical mile (1853.248Ā m).[5]Ā The UK adopted the international nautical mile definition in 1970, having previously used the UKĀ AdmiraltyĀ nautical mile (6080Ā ftĀ orĀ 1853.184Ā m).

Yeah nah, a nautical mile is based on the circumfrance of the earth. It is a minute of lattitude, standardised at 1852m

@kiwiwomble It's both, recognised in both Imperial and Metric systems

Full disclosure Royal Navy Ship and Aircraft Navigator, RAF Navigator - was educated about, trained and worked in Knots for a significant part of my life. 😜

EDIT: It is not an SI unit tho
