I keep getting crucified on here for saying some movies held as greats aren't all that.

I've said the same about Spartacus. 💤

I should watch Ben-Hur at some stage.

Watched the first hour of the fanboi-athon (watching it in 4 parts) and as expected, it's really not for me. Snyder just isn't my director. Gal Gadot still looks hot, but the visual effects give me a Star Wars prequel feeling and I assume there was no editor at all on this movie. Oh and the 4:3 is stupid. I can't see what is the point of it.

Will update again when I get round to hour 2. I'm sure you'll all be looking forward to that. 😉

Also Binge has to be the worst app out there. Shat itself three times, although the 3rd time was right on the hour mark so that work perfectly, and after the second time it shit itself it decided that the account wasn't HD, so I had to close it and log back in again for it to remember it was HD.

I read one review that said if you like Snyder films, there's more here to like. If you hate, them then there is more to hate. Just about sums it up.

The ratio is for Imax, and actually puts more content on screen. For some of the battle scenes it's great. For scenes where people are sitting at a table, less so. So much headroom.

I read an interview with him about the ratio and he basically said that he really liked the way that the IMAX ratio gives you a high ceiling and thought that it was really appropriate when dealing with super heroes who are meant to be larger than life. You get to direct action up and down more than side to side which should work well with beings that can fly/jump/leap etc.
When you think of it like that then the only real disadvantage is with Flash which would explain how his scenes concentrated more on slowing time than moving from A to B fast.

Watched an interview with him where he explained how he shot some of the scenes. Interestingly, he was having to compete with JJ Abrams for Christopher Nolan's bespoke IMAX lense (of which there is only one).

And as an example of what it was used for, the close up of the wedding ring in BvS when Lois is scattering dirt on the coffin.

I was thinking the other day that Snyder and Tim Burton are actually pretty similar. A very distinctive visual style, and both have problems on the plot/story side.

Both are very much suited for comic book movies.

Yeah, I definitely think this has been borne out by my reaction (well to the first hour at least) and my mate who is uber fanboi of the Snyderverse (and the fans on here).

What I found weird though was that much of that first hour was the same as the previous version. My mate was adamant the whole Wonder Woman London scene was entirely shot by Whedon - until last week when he watched the Snyder cut I guess.

I really do think DC need to get better effects people/companies. I found much of the effects in this to be as bad as WW84.

Boy is that movie overrated. Fuck it goes forever, feels like it drags, and yet just jumps forward. It feels like immigrant gets off the boat, immigrant gets in to drug business, I'm the boss now! i'm really rich. and now I'm fucked. Yet it's 3 pretty boring hours.

Whole heaps of some good old fashioned Al Pacino overacting.

Yes it's 40 years old, but other movies of its time did it way better.

Thank god I'm not the only one. I keep getting crucified on here for saying some movies held as greats aren't all that.

By contrast, I'm sure Godfather 1 and 2 are still farken boss

Just like Bill and Ted really. First film great, second even better, 3rd utter shit.

I'm not on that train with you, I liked the 3rd film, might have been due to it being the 2nd film I watched back in cinemas again after lockdown, but I enjoyed. Agree on Godfather 3 though.

    Were you drunk as well?

No more drunk than when I'm watching your beloved Cobra Kai with it's silly contrivances and characters who change personalities more than I switch Super rugby teams. 😉

@nepia it’s the same basic plot, but the beginning is quite different. Even some of the scenes that you might think are the same are actually Whedon reshoots to add shirt jokes.

Lots of side by side comparisons if you care.

Main thing to check is the Affleck wig and his weight. In the 2017 version he drops up and down between scenes.

Weirdly, at the end he looks like he’s back to his Town shape. Very thin.

I'm struggling to sit through more than an hour of the movie let alone watching comparisons. 😉

Having my laptop be fucked, I've resorted to freeview and youtube for entertainment.
    Freeview tonight, has Robocop.
I thought “sweet”... I've been getting sick of endless “Never Mind the Buzzcocks” replays.
Then... I discover that apparently somebody remade Robocop. With quite a good cast. And an absolute dogshit script.
    Fuck you, “somebody”.

He has a couple every few episodes. You have to give the writers credit for how they manage to write themselves out of any irrational situation.

The two big group fights were pretty awesome though. Like they were from an Indonesian movie if Indonesia censored violence like they censor nudity.

Hopefully S4 has more Moon and less of Kreese's back story in the cleanest jungle in existence.

Lots of side by side comparisons if you care.

Weirdly, at the end he looks like he’s back to his Town shape. Very thin.

I heard that last scene with Martian manhunter was a Snyder reshoot for this cut, that’s why afflecks much thinner...and older

I thought he looked younger if anything. The entire epilogue was a reshoot.

Snyder has said that he filmed that MM scene with a John Stewart version of the Green Lantern, but the studio asked him to take it out. So the compromise was MM instead, 75% of the scene was the same.

Funny thing is he wasn’t supposed to do any reshoots but did them anyway, making the point it said Zac Snyder’s Justice League, so....

They need to do a documentary about this film, so much is unusual
