I bought a PS5 this week, thankfully just before lockdown.
Any tips on games? Right now it looks like lots of PS4 games on replay. Bought as my brother programmes for a studio releasing a game soon, and I kind of have to get one. So wait list, and it arrived months earlier than expected
The latest Far Cry (complete with old mate from Breaking Bad/Mando as the main bad guy ) looks absolutely incredible.
That series is off the charts, absolutely amazing.

The Adidas/AB store at Auckland Airport had both the newest games (must be the Challenge 4 and the one @Tim mentioned) and a mate and I played for about an hour or so waiting for our delayed flight. They were both crappier than Challenge 3.
yeah, i had a bit of buyers remorse when i got RC4, unless its going to be fifa/madden/nba level (which they aren't) then it either needs to be cheaper or they should go for a cartoony/fun angle...going for realistic and falling so short is a fail

@nzzp what kind of games do you usually like?
Heaps of PS4 games as you say. If you sign up to PS+ you should get access to heaps of old but really good PS4 games.
Great two player couch co-op is It Takes Two. It's heaps of fun and kids can play (though it does talk about divorces etc. so be prepared for questions).
I always recommend The Last of Us (originally a PS3 games) if you haven't played if before. It's also currently being turned into a tv series.
Demon Souls Remastered is worth a go too. Looks great and runs smooth.

Was that really a PS3 game? Man time flies. @nzzp You can get a box set of all the Uncharted games reasonably cheap these days. If you liked Tomb Raider back in the day you'll enjoy Uncharted.

@nepia Yeah, made me pause before I wrote that. I'm pretty sure it came out right at the end of the PS3 lifecycle which makes it feel more like a PS4 release.
I still haven't finished the sequel. I got about halfway through and got over the story (I don't want to spoil it so I'll leave it at that). Will pick it up again one day.
The built in game in the PS5, Astro's Playground, is actually a pretty good little game in itself.

Yeah, I assume I just played it on my mates PS3 at the crossover point. I only really play rugby and league now as they are set times for a match - otherwise I'll waste the whole evening if I'm playing another style of game.
Haven't played Astros Playground but two of my mates who bought PS5s both said it was good too.

Diablo 2 remastered is out soon and total Warhammer 3 is close as well. Frothing!

Is there still a market for games like those and StarCraft ?
Iām more of an āobservationalā gamer nowadays. One son is obsessed with Far Cry, the other Zelda and I have a bit of a go here and there and in both cases the amazing immersion in those games is just mind blowing. I love sitting watching them play, explore, do shit, get frustrated solving puzzlesā¦..the whole shebang.
Genuine question @Paekakboyz cos thereās just so many games of that ilk ( solo player running round in a sandbox ) that I wonder if the strategy games of the early 90s are still popular ?
-
@mn5 those games are still going but pretty niche compared to the biggest games. Nothing like SC2 in terms of pro games (broodwar aside) and I hope rts hang around.
Companies are making bank with remastered classics from the late 90s and 2000s. Nostalgia in spades!

Tend to prefer thinking games over FPS type. Really enjoyed Portal 2, for instance, and played through SubNautica just now. Horizon Zero Dawn is probably my top game - just so well put together.
Unpopular opinion here, but got bored by Witcher 3. Had such high hopes, but couldn't get excited by teh shitty combat and inventory management. May have another crack sometime though, I hear a second attempt can pay off.

I found the learning curve tough the first time out.
Combat against humans was ridiculously hard and monsters ridiculously easy by comparison. That was probably my main complaint.

going to jump on the Witcher 3 = ones of the best games ever bandwagon, we'll worth the $70 bucks i paid for it and even more so considering that included the two DLC's, the second of which is a pretty epic game in its own right, who new map etc
some of the storys are pretty awesome and complex, having something as complicated as the bloody baron as the first real chapter is pretty cool

@kiwiwomble hol up, how many Witcher posts are allowed before a Gwent mention!! Sheesh!
-
@paekakboyz I managed to finished all guests except the qwent ones with only playing 3 games I think...i don't get the rules
