@rancid-schnitzel dont think the chewie/han back story was canon previously but more because everything pre the disney take over was decanonised except the six movies at that point
dont know what the previous canan back story was
have to say i didn't mind it, another movie i would love to see how it was originally envisaged, director change wtc
Yeah, who knows. It was very disjointed. Could and should have been much better. A second film with Jabba and Maul would have been cool but they should have pulled out all the stops for this one. Stupid.
-
@rancid-schnitzel yeah, disney can afford to ,in this case, just commit to and even make two movies concurrently...making one that sets up "the good stuff" and then not making the sequel is just disappointing

Finally saw Solo.
It's pretty shit. Not LJ shit but uninspiring and boring probably best describes it. Some of the early scenes were good and I particularly liked the scene where Han was in the middle of some sort of invasion. But ultimately it was very meh. That droid was utterly ridiculous. Not a big fan of the Chewie-Han backstory either. Was that cannon prior to the film? Actually one scene I really liked was Chewie helping out the other Wookies in the mine. The final "battle" was about as exciting and satisfying as a piece of bread. The dude playing Han was likeable and tried really hard but just wasn't believable as the Han we know and love. And that was killed by his emo son.
Ultimately, it was just another example of the SW universe being criminally underutilised. Thank God for the Mandalorian.
Extremely weak villain too I thought.
Tell me about it. But most things were lame. Especially the marauders suddenly being freedom fighters. Ffs.

Does anyone know if there’s a sequel in the works or does the fact it tanked a bit mean there won’t be ?
I mean, Q’ira is YET ANOTHER strong female character ( As if Mando didn’t introduce enough of them, feminists ) so it might be interesting to know what her fate was in SW lore. I doubt she’s off living a peaceful life by the time of the OT, surely someone has popped her off prior to that.
I’m excited as fuck about the Boba Fett show, Please please please PLEASE be as awesome as Mando……

@mn5 dont think anything is in the works, i think the only current starwars project unannounced but in the works is the taika waititi project and i dont know why but i cant see him taking it up
Yeah I have a strong feeling the Solo storyline will fall by the wayside with all the other activity that’s going on. Let’s not forget the Obi Wan series which I suspect will be all kinds of sensational, however like the Fett series it will in all likelihood take place entirely on Tattooine, that location has been done to death in my opinion. I’m fairly sure Obi Wan got there and never left til he met Han and Chewie in a New Hope.
Big questions as to what he really did for all those years too, it’s not like the Empire ever knew he was there so he didn’t draw too much attention to himself.

i heard early rumours for several years Obi-wan went out looking for Jedi that had survived and tats would at least make up part of the series...fingers crossed, wonder if we'll see a live action version of the maul episode from rebels

Yeah his arc with Maul would be great if we saw it in live action form.
I thought he literally kept his head down and checked on Luke, nothing more than that. However judging by how Uncle Owen described him it’s not like he came round for dinner every week.

This is the problem with "filler". It starts to impact on the actual storyline. If Obi is travelling the Galaxy doing awesome shit, it makes less likely that he was able to live anonymously on Tatooine.
There is zero momentum for a new Solo film. I think it's only chance for success would be the inclusion of Jabba, Maul, Fett and Vader. Maybe even an Obi cameo. Again, the scope and potential are endless yet for some reason (other than the Mandalorian) we keep getting served uninspiring dross.

Definitely, so much of Rogue Ones appeal was DV even though he was in it only briefly.

@rancid-schnitzel i think there is a little scope for some swashbuckling from obiwan, we've got 20 years to play with and as bad as it was he was living under a alias by the end, he'd just seen everything he knew fall down around him i think it would be pretty logical for him to spend some time trying to see if any of it had survived whilst he was still young enough, especially if he knew people like Ahsoka were somewhat removed from the jedi and so might not have been standing next to a stormtrooper when the order was given
I think old hermit trying to survive in the desert isn't enough on its own and would potentially be too similar to season 1 of Mando, very old west the ronin or masterless warrior

The Obi Wan we first saw ( in a New Hope ) seemed to do all he could to avoid combat and confrontations but ( due to Alec Guiness’s superb performance ) we get the feeling he’s definitely seen some action in his time. I hope this show bridges the gap and gives one of the more beloved characters in SW history what he deserves.

My guess is the series will be the start of the exile, an adventure or two (even off planet) then will end with the realisation that Vader is still alive, perhaps another confrontation (to explain the "Obi Wan once thought as you did line"), then a broken Obi Wan wanders out to the sunset to live out his days on Tattoine a shell of his former self.

That all sounds pretty accurate to me bar the off planet bit cos for whatever reason ( maybe I’m imagining it ) I thought he never left once he got there.
Then again, a smart cookie like Obi Wan would have known who Vader was pretty quickly depending on how effective the Empires propaganda/social media was.

100%
i can imagine a whole episode with no dialogue, one big montage of a broken man trying to learn this new life in exile, showing how hard life is, maybe afraid to use the force incase someone senses it, also explaining how much he aged
@MN5 can you remember where you might have heard that, never leaving tattoine?
-
am i imagining that hayden christensen has been confirmed as returning to the DV role? i cant imagine we'll see him on tattoine as surely he'd sense his child, surely if he went back he'd go to his family

I saw his response to that news in a SW Comic recently, it would be a great scene in the series. As far as Obi Wan is concerned he left him to die. So he'll have even more guilt with all the additional jedi that died thanks to Vader because he didn't finish him off.

He's been cast, yes. I'm hoping we get a bacta tank scene and in that black pod thing getting his helmet put on.
And Rebels had that great scene where Vader's facemak got broken and you could see Anakin's sith eyes and hear his voice. That would be great to see in live action.
