@shark said in What should the eoyt squad look like?:

Couldn't think of a less relevant comparison. 2017 Kaino was at the very tail end of his career and was already a great. That comparison just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Totally agree with you. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever to judge a player on one game. That was the point I was making when responding to your comments on Akira Ioane's poor game on Saturday

That's trying to explain a nonsensical comparison with more nonsense.

Kaino is remembered for an outstanding career, two RWC wins, and might just be the GOAT at 6. No-one judges him based on those games.

Ioane is starting out at international level and was just starting to look the part when he came badly unstuck in a game many suspected might find him out. He should have an opportunity to atone for that this weekend but if he can't that'll simply reinforce he's little more than another Frizzel. It's 100% fair to weigh up a judgement based on his body of work thus far with an emphasis on his last game as it was such a significant one.

That your post garnered two likes says so much about the fanatical Akira Ioane support from the Auckland posters!

Anyways, I never actually said I was judging Ioane on one game. I gave him credit for his improvement until the SA game and then stated the obvious around his terrible performance in a crunch game. Am I actually "judging" him on that? No, but I'm taking it into account and giving it much more weight than many of his previous performances. Is that not fair?

Just remembered that Sam Whitelock will be back for the EOYT, but that Scott Barrett will travel home at some point for the birth of his first child.

Doubt it. Cane, Whitelock, Coles and Frizell will probably be the additions.

I would like for them to include a young lock, we need to build more depth there. He can take Frizell's place.

That's a lot of experience there. They may not be at their peak physically anymore, but experience is huge for our team right now

"Sammy Whitelock, Sam Cane and Dane Doles are all hoping to try to get a run around this weekend in New Zealand before they come over."

Brilliant. He has the most potential of the young locks imo.

Interesting choice. Three AB locks from Taranaki, although I assume he will be replacing Barrett.

Scott Barrett and Patty T returning to NZ.

                                      https://www.allblacks.com/news/young-lock-josh-lord-called-into-the-all-blacks/

20-year-old Lord, together with All Blacks Sam Cane, Samuel Whitelock, Dane Coles and Shannon Frizell, will meet up with the squad in the Northern Hemisphere. Lord comes in, with locks Scott Barrett and Patrick Tuipulotu returning to New Zealand this week for family reasons.

All Blacks Head Coach Ian Foster said: “From a physical point of view, we have come through the Fortinet Rugby Championship really well. Therefore, we’ve decided to add fewer players than first anticipated for the next part of our 12-week Tour. Also having the Bunnings Warehouse NPC continue into November means we are also able to bring over potential replacements, if required.”

With the All Blacks squad unable to return to New Zealand, the squad will relocate from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast tomorrow. The squad will have a week off and a training camp next week before flying out to the USA on Sunday 17 October. The All Blacks play the USA Eagles in Washington DC on Saturday 23 October before Test matches against Wales (Saturday 30 October), Italy (Saturday 6 November), Ireland (Saturday 13 November) and France (Saturday 20 November).

After first making his provincial debut for Taranaki in 2019, Josh Lord was called into the Chiefs wider training squad in 2020 and then the full squad this year. He made his Sky Super Rugby debut against the Crusaders in 2021 and played five matches. Lord has proved himself as a versatile lock and at 2.02m has impressed with his lineout work and with ball in hand. Lord plays both his provincial and Super Rugby alongside current All Blacks lock Tupou Vaa’i. Hailing from the small township of Owhango in the central North Island, Lord attended Hamilton Boys’ High School and first came onto the national radar with the University of Waikato Under 20 side as well as the New Zealand Under 20 team in 2018.

Same! I didn't want to ask what team he played for as he has a Chiefs Jersey on in that photo.
