To me that was the biggest fuck up of the prequels (ok, one of many). The Vader v Obi Wan fight in Star Wars was written off as being slow because they were old. And then they went and made them young as fuck in the prequels, meaning they went from mid-20s and 30s to their 60s in 18 years.

Obi Wan woulda been over 40 when he wasted Annekin first time round, Annekin woulda been late 20s so 60 odd vs late 40s is entirely plausible. They were early 20s and about 8 or 9 when they first met. No Jar Jar level fuck ups there.

Pity that the change of canon seems to have killed off General Thrawn as he was the Empire's tactical genius equivalent of Ackbar.

Squid like creature barely getting used to breathing in the air rather than underwater vs the most powerful Sith lord ever ? I think he more than held his own.

He was the backbone while Luke was fucking round with his "feelings" and family issues, Han was trying to one up Lando who wanted to give Leia a bit of the black D and the droids and Chewie were goofing off impersonating deities and such.

Admiral Ackbar is the most unsung hero in Star Wars history.

It would be great to see a movie with a bigger role for Ackbar but that won't happen unfortunately.

At the start of E4 they refer to the Rebellion having won their first battle. Would be cool to have a film about that. I assume Ackbar played a part.

Are those novels now considered canon?

Farking glad I only read a couple of the EU books. Fans were severely farked over there.

Only two novels currently canon. "Aftermath", which has a part 2 coming in a few months and one just released which is centred around Leia and explains some of the Kylo backstory.
Considering that the EU novels also covered the period of the new movies and was quite different, they kind of had to abandon all of it.

I'm wary of some of those EU books. I heard of one where apparently the Wampa ( big white snow monster ) that Luke disarmed in ESB met him again years later on Hoth and tried to take revenge. I seriously hope that's not "canon" cos that story sounds fucken ridiculous.

EDIT, Wookiepedia confirms the truth of this.....

I read quite a few of the novels and yes, there were some absolute shite stories in among them. There were also some really good ones.

I mentioned the General Thrawn stuff. That particular trilogy stands out as good. After a while the novels drifted in to being about Han and Leia's kids and Luke's partner.

Then they went into the NJO (New Jedi Order) series which was quite well planned out to start and threw a really fresh slant on stuff by killing off Chewie in the first book. This sends Han off the rails and has a similar effect to the Kylo Ren stuff.
