Because one team played on the front foot, and one team went static ball to static ball.

Best part of our game was when we started taking it from the base and running direct. And funnily one of the better passages was when Reece was playing like a halfback!!

He's really good around the ruck, I think there is a serious opportunity to use him in a roaming role.

But that would involve a significant mindset change. And us playing very narrow and tight.

@stodders definitely feels like too many ball players right now, not enough grafters

More players Like R Thorne, Blackadder Snr and T Randall then 😉

ABs have developed their fitness program to produce players with explosive power, capable of busting the advantage line and freeing hands to support runners. It worked well in the past and allowed them to play close to the gain line to exploit their better decision making and handling skills.

That was then. Especially with the forwards. The powerful packs have ball players now too. The Bok and Irish packs can play and they can bludgeon.

NZ set the trend for the last 20 years. Like with any era, they come to an end. NZ needs to innovate again if they want to lead and dominate again.

Don't go too far. In fairness, Randall was a v good player. Wasted talent IMO. Reuben Thorne was a bit like Peter O'Mahoney is for Ireland. Dependable.

That's the tactics. NZ are scared to hold onto it. If they aren't making ground, it turns into a hot potato and it has to be kicked away. Which would be fine.if the defensive line was being used an offensive line to create turnover opportunities or force mistakes from which to transition into.

It's so funny! Look at all these chicken littles since 2015! Always saying that we're in decline and lack physical forwards! They even think Ireland are a threat! But we just keep on winning all the time so of course we appoint the same coaches and play the same tactics! HA HA HA HA HA All these panicking fools! I'm above it all!

I thought one of the ironies today was the ABs hoisting a fair number of up and unders hoping for a bit of luck. Didn't the Boks get lambasted for this negative tactic?

He's always just slagging everything NZ rugby off, but I agree for once with rattue

The chickens came home to roost in Dublin as the All Blacks' jobs-for-the-boys coaching system was exposed by an extraordinary Irish performance.

New Zealand Rugby's decision to re-appoint Ian Foster with indecent haste this year was turned into a horror show by the power and precision of the magnificent Irish stampede

For all the talk from Plummer about wanting to dominate in the forwards, we are picking a mobile pack over a ball running, physical pack, starting at eight. And obviously, I think Akira and Blackadder should be switched but if they give Akira a good 30mins we can get the impact we'll need from his defence.
So I worry out plan is to go wide too early still, we look a better side when we flood the breakdown and do a few pick and goes before using the pace out wide. We've not picked the team to play that way though.

Having given this some thought, I can't see the tight five doing enough for this mobile loose forward trio. Sure they all work harder than an ugly stripper, but where's the physical impact to dominate collisions?

Call it confirmation bias, but Ardie doesn't hit rucks, so that leaves seven forwards. Our two props can't carry hard, so that leaves five. One of our locks is still coming up to speed after grafting away in Japan. Taukei’aho, probably the form hooker for physical impact, couldn't even make the bench.

There's talking the talk and there's walking the walk. Time to stop pandering to the playing group, stop talk about providing them opportunities to express themselves. They aren't good enough to take ownership with a leadership group and start dictating that a new era of being feared is among us. Time for Foster to call on his inner Fred Allen.

Plumtree is one of the 3 selectors so I'd say he gets exactly the forward pack he wants.

There a couple of "first name on the team sheet" guys that don't deserve it

Two of them are in the front row
When an extraordinarily limited player like Scott Barrett would walk in to the current 2nd row then you know there's an issue
A Savea is a pretty player for easy days

Half the fucking pack. Half. Damning.

Issues everywhere in the backs except the back 3, with 4 very good players. But no idea how to give them an opportunity.

Starts up front. Starts in the coaching box.

Actually, probably starts back at home. But that is a slightly more horrifying thought

Still, for all the cathartic blood letting, it's great for world rugby that things appear to be evening out, and a test between two top sides is back to probably being a 60-40 proposition in the home teams favour

We're no better nor no worse than any other top side now, which is kind of exciting. Be very nice to see us working on rectifying that, instead of, as it appears, thinking it's 2015 still.

Not going to happen with this coaching group. Out of ideas.

Just this coaching group? Who would you replace them with if you could pick?

Foster needs to give Wayne Smith a call. The slide began when he left.

@stodders Wayne Smith would be great!

Defensive coach: as mentioned above, Mitchell or Schmidt
Forwards coach: Coventry or Jason Ryan and Scott Hansen
                                          Attack Coach: Smith
                                          Analyst: Robertson
Head Coach: Rennie (too late now)

EDIT: Tony Brown does interesting things with his attack, especially off set-piece ball.
