Ok so 3.5 Q’s out of 5 M’s for No time to Die. Good story line, acting not quite there in places. But plenty of Bond humour and obviously action a plenty.

Not going to say too much about the movie so as to avoid spoilers but worth a look if you are a Bond fan like me from way back.

OK one spoiler Ana de Armas is a babe and there are even rumours she may even get her own Bond spin-off which would be cool.

And I think I may have a theory on the next Bond actor.

Am 1/3 in (family stuff got in the way) and not that impressed. came across as tired and formulaic. Still fun to watch but lacks the edge of Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace. Trying too hard to be clever and, in parts, woke.

Next Bond? I'd go for Idris Elba. Has the right mix of menace, cool, screen presence and is just so British.

Idris Elba would be a great Bond. I'd probably go and watch one at the cinema if he was the next Bond.

Bond is white. Can’t have a black dude playing him. Plus he’s well known and too old now too.

Says who? Is Bond Scottish or English?

    He’s white.

I don't know if I care that much, but I reckon Bond is a codename rather than a specific person.

If he can morph from being Scottish to English, and dark haired to blond, I am sure he can be whatever race the director wants.

I’m a traditionalist. He was written as a white guy, that’s who the character is.

Not particularly PC or woke perhaps but that’s what I feel. Some formulas shouldn’t be messed with I don’t reckon. If they want to do spin offs with other leads they can fill their boots and every black/disabled/lesbian/midget can have a crack at defeating Spectre and saving the world but I hope they leave James Bond as he is.

It's not PC because it's racist mate. Character is not colour. If someone non-white can act the character well, then what's the problem? I'd far prefer a black Bond than one that doesn't drink and womanise.

No it’s not. Take your woke bullshit elsewhere. By the same token I don’t want Shaft to be played by a white guy.

Nothing woke about it. Just like there is nothing in the Bond books or his character to indicate whiteness. And the recent Bond films are based in modern times, so there's no historical basis for whiteness either.
Making him gay would be woke bullshit, because the serial womanising is an integral part of the character, and you would be changing the character in order to pander. But white isn't part of the character, and you don't have to change the character to pick a black actor if you think he's the best bloke for the job - so you are ruling black out based on what? Inconsistency of appearance when all the Bonds have looked different?

Yeah he's described as looking like Hoagy Carmichael, who is white, blue grey eyes, etc. So yes he is white in the books.

Not that it would bother me, a female bond would.

Felix Leitner managed the change ok

He became a black guy in the 80s ( after being young, middle aged, old, fat and very tall depending on the movie )

There are some characters where the make up of the person is not so important. Morgan Freeman playing Red in Shawshank for example. Others where the image is everything. Like how many times in the books do we get told Jack Reacher is 6’5” and then they cast Tom Cruise.

The image of Bond is very much a part of who he is. Leiter was barely described at all.

    Dune

Fucking amazing, the best thing I have seen in a long long time

    Visually stunning, incredible score.

Love how the story is allowed to unfold. Hate I now have to wait 2 fucking years.

    5 fucking stars.

If it’s anything like the 80s movie and book then the second one SHOULD be considerably better than the first which will be a big ask given how awesome it is.

    I’m going again next week.

    Wrath of Man.

I had reasonable hopes for this one. Jason Statham can usually be relied upon to dish out some gratuitous violence. Guy Ritchie used to be able to direct a film with a laddish humour, plus I saw a couple of trailers which looked promising.

My advice would be to watch the trailers and leave it at that. The whole thing is a miss-mash, almost as if Ritchie has read three scripts that he likes and has decided to put them all into one film. The shootouts are OK but then they're in the trailers.

    No tits either.

1 film out of five scripts.

Agree completely. I was waiting for the building orgy of violence and it finished like a limp dick.

@mn5 I watched about 45 mins of the original a month or so back, prior to watching the re-boot, has not aged well and was so slow I gave up, new one was very good.

there were some great violent scenes, but a completely muddled plot, lack of humour, a friken man cardy, zero tits really puts this effort as one of his lower efforts.

Some scenes are the same word for word which is pretty cool. The old one did have some pretty cool stuff ( but also some horrific SFX which have aged badly )

Virginia Madsen wasn’t in it enough and had too many clothes.

Original Rocky - best talk about retards and the zoo.

Rocky III - best performance of anyone in that genre from Mr T. Pain!

Watching a noir, early classic line regarding a blonde: "That's enough to make a bulldog bust his chain."

If a good Trump movie was made (may not be possible to have enough critical distance to do so), Steve Bannon would be played by Philip Seymour Hoffman (I know he's dead). Who would play Trump?

    So not Alec Baldwin then?

PSH would be perfect for Brannon, good call.

@voodoo Not bad. He did play Dominique Strauss-Kahn in Abel Ferrara's Welcome to New York. Another man who knew how to grab em by the pussy. 😉

    Samuel Fulller's The Naked Kiss.

The too good to be true angle was coming from a mile off, but that was a devastating twist in 1964. David Lynch must have watched this.

    Lead actress was great.

    4/5.
