I'm hoping that they'll bring out an e-power X-trail.
The Kicks is a bit small and we don't want a van, but I like the technology.
I want them to add a few things though, such as electric seats. I never thought I would require it, but as we only have one car, I want to push one button and have my car set itself up for me. I've got very used to in our current car.
NB: Looks like the new Outlander PHEV is pretty cool, 7 seats, very well kitted out, and still 20-25000 cheaper than the equivalent X3. Once they lose the new car sheen, I could see us going for one of those as they'll retail for about 55K but be available used with 10K kms for 45K within a year.

Mustang E-Mach.
Worst by a country mile. Absolutely terrible car.
Ok, I didn’t drive it. Salesman wasn’t there when I turned up for my booking … and the branch head told me they didn’t have one anyway ….
Think Ford Guildford …. Thing again
Hold on. Ford sucks or the car sucks? Did you actually see one?

3pm Thursday I arranged to meet Levi (salesman) to drive the E Mach.
I turned up at 3pm. Levi not there. So I asked for somebody else to help. The other person said they didn’t have an e Mach to drive ….

So the wife wants an EV. Happy to get something smaller to complement the 7 seater SUV for family trips, so range not a huge issue.
So little to choose from in Oz.
Seems to be the MG only under 50k, the Leaf and the IONIC under 60k, the Mona, Nero or MX30 to 75k then the Tesla S, Merc, Volvo all over 80k

I'm also in the same position, I am waiting for the BYD Yuan Plus which is advertised as being under 40k AUD and is very similar to a Mazda CX5. Appears the long range has 510km which is nice. I think the price and specs etc are up on the website next month. Not many reviews yet or info but here is a video in chinese showing it.
And this much cheaper small car which is likely to be under 35k

@antipodean cheers for that. Still looks like not much on offer until H2 2022? And the lack of a 2nd hand market keeps the prices sky high

Second hand car market is interesting right now - a bloke at work bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee private sale 3 years ago and could recover his money today in a private sale (obviously not the repair costs
because Jeep).
I'm eyeing off whether I just take the plunge and spend $80K on a Volvo XC40 Recharge or wait. The X-Trail isn't going to change much in value between now and then...

I looked at that last night, it's a nice looking ride. Have you driven it?
-
@voodoo nah - nearest Volvo is Parramatta.
Realistically, I'd have to convince Mrs TA to drop $80K on a vehicle that doesn't have the range or offroad cred of my X-Trail. She would love the interior tho.
My fallback plan is to wait until her Mum's dementia finally closes that chapter, then go into Nissan and try to score a discount on a Leaf ($55k) + Ariya ($75k).
It would be good to go all-EV at the same time, but we've still got a mortgage apparently and should be paying that off faster

I’m guessing you haven’t driven one yet. It’s just a little bit nicer than a Leaf. Even at 80k you’re getting a lot of car for your money IMO.

All joking aside, does the X-Trail have any off road cred? Not the first thing that jumps in my head when thinking of an x-trail.

Discounts on electric cars .... optimistic! To be straight with you though mate, a fallback plan of awaiting a parents passing is never a good idea.

Nah ... money's cheap!!
