It’s the next generation of driving. The tech in it is so far ahead of the rest. It’s quite the car, long way ahead of the last one I drove. But, the list of things I don’t like is quite long.
You need a head up display. Absurd to look left to see speed. The fit / finish of the car is poor. There is a lot of tech for tech sake - buttons to open doors etc. Having to go through an iPad to do anything gets annoying really quick. But worst of all, both my wife and I felt really ill. I imagine the kids in the back will be worse.
So in summary, in a lot of ways it’s the best car in the world. But in others it’s the complete opposite.
I love these posts btw. Having to use that iPad must be fucking frustrating - fuck navigating that to turn the fan up or down, or the temp up or down.
My neighbour has just got one & is three days in. He completely agrees with me on all the negatives and says right now, he wish he hadn't got one. I suspect though that once he's familiar with the screen and running it, he'll love it. Although I think he'll never get used to the speedo not being right in front - he pointed out something I hadn't noticed. He needs glasses for reading (getting older ...) and said that glancing down to see the speed has always been fine, but glancing right means he's out of focus. So it takes him time.
He's got 3 kids so I asked him if he'd considered the Model X. He hadn't as his mate has one and stuff keeps falling off it ...
If he can afford a tesla he can afford glasses that are normal on top and have reading lense strength built in the bottom.

I looked at the e-Niro and found it anything but gutless but hated the interior - just bland and plasticky. Stopped looking as I couldn't find anything which really suited my needs, and hoped the EV6 or it's Hyundai stablemate would fit the bill as there's an AWD version. Bit of a bugger if it's gutless.

Mercedes EQC - it's a lovely place to be, beautifully made car with some really nice tech. But I think they are aiming it at people a little older than me. Very soft & perhaps just a little bit boring ....

That is interesting, the reviews I read of its Hyundai equivalent noted it drove like a fridge ie you can really feel the weight, but did not mention acceleration.

I'm hoping that they'll bring out an e-power X-trail.
The Kicks is a bit small and we don't want a van, but I like the technology.
I want them to add a few things though, such as electric seats. I never thought I would require it, but as we only have one car, I want to push one button and have my car set itself up for me. I've got very used to in our current car.
NB: Looks like the new Outlander PHEV is pretty cool, 7 seats, very well kitted out, and still 20-25000 cheaper than the equivalent X3. Once they lose the new car sheen, I could see us going for one of those as they'll retail for about 55K but be available used with 10K kms for 45K within a year.

3pm Thursday I arranged to meet Levi (salesman) to drive the E Mach.
I turned up at 3pm. Levi not there. So I asked for somebody else to help. The other person said they didn’t have an e Mach to drive ….

So the wife wants an EV. Happy to get something smaller to complement the 7 seater SUV for family trips, so range not a huge issue.
So little to choose from in Oz.
Seems to be the MG only under 50k, the Leaf and the IONIC under 60k, the Mona, Nero or MX30 to 75k then the Tesla S, Merc, Volvo all over 80k

I'm also in the same position, I am waiting for the BYD Yuan Plus which is advertised as being under 40k AUD and is very similar to a Mazda CX5. Appears the long range has 510km which is nice. I think the price and specs etc are up on the website next month. Not many reviews yet or info but here is a video in chinese showing it.
And this much cheaper small car which is likely to be under 35k

Australians will soon have new electric models to choose from as car makers respond to growing demand.

Second hand car market is interesting right now - a bloke at work bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee private sale 3 years ago and could recover his money today in a private sale (obviously not the repair costs
because Jeep).I'm eyeing off whether I just take the plunge and spend $80K on a Volvo XC40 Recharge or wait. The X-Trail isn't going to change much in value between now and then...
