was citing it as an option, saying could it be an option to immobilise a gorilla, obviously not an option while holding a toddler...that said, the voltage required to immediately immobilise an ape might be sufficient to kill it anyway, rendering my initial question pointless, which was just pondering as an alternative to needing to shoot it dead, not the answer to this situation.
-

Far worse than the ape story is the recent one where a naked dude intent on suicide jumped into a lion's enclosure and starting antagonising them - to rescue him, they shot both lions dead.

Idiot child is one thing. But idiot adult should be fair game.

As for the whinging mother, fuck off, lady. As someone else said, a hospital is not a hotel. Unless you are recovering from a bad birth or c-section, there is no reason to stay and take a bed from an actual sick person. (If the mother decided when she left hospital, half of them would probably never leave.)
-

.....but writes boring books with too much emphasis on gliding, he's too friendly to John Key and now this......Richies place in the pantheon is slipping to dangerous "Zac Guildford" like levels now.

Ex and I have got my boys to the point where they don't even particularly like soft drinks, they have lollies every now and again as a "treat" like they were in my day. Ferals always have someone else to blame though aye ?

Richie must have some kind of superpower though cos despite all the powerade he still has all his teeth, he truly must be god amongst us.
-

Complete lack of responsibility stories always shit me.

There is zero need for a 5 year old to have Powerade. Ever. For the amount of sugar in it, you may as well have a Coke.

By the by, if the kid had some Powerade then drank a cup of water after, there wouldn't be nearly so much of a problem. It's the prolonged sipping of drinks like Powerade that is bad, because the acid is staying in the mouth and being refreshed. Another bad combo is having a Coke or Powerade then brushing teeth. The acidity in the drinks weakens enamel, then if you brush straight away, you gouge into the teeth. Again, water between. (Also a reason why pregnant women shouldn't brush their teeth after throwing up.)
-

Headline: Call for controls on marketing for sugary drinks featuring children's sporting heroes

Should read: Parents give money to kid to buy as many sugary drinks as he likes, now he needs his teeth pulled
-

Yes, my boy who is 3 1/2 has never had a soft drink in his life. He drinks milk and water, and he loves it.

But, we (most people on the Fern) are educated and largely sensible people that can very easily see the harm in these things. Restricting advertising is a way of saving children from their uneducated idiotic parents. The type of people that see Richie drinking a Powerade on T.V. and think "yeah awesome if Richie drinks a Powerade I'll feed my kid 5 per day and he'll end up just like Richie!!!".

I can see both sides of the argument, parents need to take responsibility but if we are going to be realistic there will always be parents like this. We can't just do nothing for these kids.
-

You don't even need to be educated to realize the harm that too many soft drinks will do, juice is bad as well. Teeth aside I only had to watch my boys cross country the other day to predict the fat fluffybunnies who'd be at the end of the pack......
-

I think you underestimate the stupidity of a lot of people. I had a bogan from Levin genuinely suggesting that allowing my 6 month old baby to drink the 'froth' off the top off my beer was a good idea, and couldn't understand why I wouldn't do it. Said I was "no fun" or something to that effect.
