@Bones If fatty keeps up his form then I wouldn’t have an issue with then bringing him back. The IF is the key though.

even a solid 11 to allow RI to really work on midfield without being shifted out there every few games would be a huge help

Wouldn’t be shocked if they have convinced themselves that some measure of “workrate” is all important, and are ignoring what is right in front of them.

Would explain a senile Grant Fox’s great enthusiasm for the utterly hopeless George Bridge.

Mate, if you don't think workrate is important for a rugby player, I not sure I would be dumb or insulting enough to call Fox senile.
Honest question do posters using insulting terms of selectors coaches, players etc think it impresses people? I usually consider it more a reflection of the person posting. That's not just at you Tim, but a genuine question why people do it. I have never seen any idnication that Grant Fox is senile when I heard him speak etc.

It certainly wouldn’t be from too many head knocks while tackling in his playing days

He was certainly quite defensive when he was interviewed in the last couple of years, came across as quite stubborn.

Fox did a really good job as selector but probably stuck around a year or two too long (I think initially he was planning to call it quits at end of RWC 2019 but then agreed to hang around to help Fozzie).

A fresh set of eyes in Schmidt should be well received.

@Chris The problem is Taylor's test level form has been up and down for a few seasons now - simply put his Super Rugby form just hasn't translated across.

I think @taniwharugby hit the nail on the head with his post.

His workload at Super Rugby has been nearly 100% involvement.
Over worked through SR may have caused a drop off at Test level.

The numbers for reserve hooker and reserve first five at the Saders backed that up - it's even worse when you think that now with enforced rest games, he and Mo'unga basically end up playing 80 every other game (especially if it is tight). I don't think that is setting him up to be effective when we get to test rugby, he just looked fucked last year.

Yeah I agree the Crusaders need to recruit a viable 2nd hooker who can effectively carry some of the workload.

European Travel sites have the tests as July 2nd,9th and 16th
                    in their package tours.

Irish travel sites are saying the 3 tests are

                      Saturday 2nd July
                      Saturday 9th July
                      Saturday 16th July

These dates line up exactly with England's tour of Aus.

I don't see why he hung around to long, haven't really seen anyone in last year or 2 who should of been in or our of ABs. Especially added into fact I haven't seen proper reports etc of players training, and I certainly haven't been at anywhere near as many matches to actually watch the players as the Selectors. A few here may of been at lots of games, but I have only been at a few.

Yep it's usual thing for these matches to line up.
I at this stage intend to do Wellington test, and holding out hope perhaps there will be a MAB game or two, so will try for at least one of them.

                                • Continue to pick players who underwhelm at test level (Bridge, Ennor, Frizell, Tuipulotu etc)
                                • Failed to rejuvenate the propping stocks - discarding some players (Hodgman) whilst picking others (Bower)
                                • Playing Jordie Barrett on the wing repeatedly despite obvious limitations there
                                • Some players are sacred cows no matter how they perform (Perenara, Ta'avao, Big Karl etc),

Ironically some of the really good selections have been when they've taken punts on players that had question marks over them - Samisoni T, De Groot, Christie F etc.

I don't think the selection process has been that problematic. Whatever players are chosen, they can't fulfill their potential with a tired, old game plan from the mid-2010s that everyone has worked out and surpassed. Argue about selections all you want, but unless the AB approach is developed, we'll see similar results as 2020 and 2021.

He always was a decent player who could carry well and was good at the core job of nailing his target in the line outs.

I have never seen any idnication that Grant Fox is senile when I heard him speak etc.

Yep he wanted to call it quits after WC, and I think was waiting for Schmidt to become available. Also coming across as a bit stubborn is hardly mean he's senile.

I can't agree with this line of thinking that selectors or coaches can't be criticised just because they are privy to more information.

If we look at the last 2 years

                                          • Major question marks over midfield and loose forward remain

Mate of course they can be criticised, never said they couldn't was just saying they senile, or calling them stupid etc says more about the perople saying it than it does about the selectors/coaches etc. I live in a world where I try to respect everyone whether I agree with them or not.
I have no problems with any fan having an opinion, no matter how uninformed it is, and I realise that many get theirs from watching the odd game on TV. Hell I got enough opinions, and plenty of them wrong, I know that, and realise I don't know more than selectors/coaches because if I did I would of probably been there or thereabouts in doing the job.
I repeat if anyone thinks they have the right to say people are senile/stupid etc publicly and behind a nic, it reflects them in not a great light.
