Ireland tour to NZ 2022

I had grave fears for this tour, but I'm somewhat more confident now.
A few key players have really stood up recent in the NZ squads and Leinster then looked completely wiped out vs the Bulls in their semi-final. I think they may struggle a bit.
Worryingly though, I think this puts us back on more of an even keel than Ireland being favourites!

Thanks Tim. I’ll do the separation when I’m sat at a laptop in a little while. And I’ll indicate who played last test. Kelleher was one of them and scored a try IIRC but is out through injury. Conway is another also out through injury.

I’m still getting over the 60-0 whimpering. -

Except wins at home or in neutral territory.

+1 @Derm-McCrum it is great to have Irish perspective , and one of great joys of rugby to me is always to hear how others see what's happening etc. And we all tend to look at games from the point of view of our team, so Irish view will be most interesting as I may not find any to have a beer with before games (which I normally do on way to game), I going to first Maori game and Wellington test and will be watching for Irish jerseys in pubs then too.

We need to know whether the boot was on the other foot last year when - despite the scoreboard - they inflicted one of the most comprehensive defeats I can remember.
We may have been running on fumes - but, also we may not have been.

McCloskey just seems to never have grabbed head coaches' interest. He's been playing really well alongside newbie, James Hume, this season, but still not enough. I think only an injury to one of the selected midfielders would get him into the frame.

Think Mike could be right though. Leinster look like they are exhausted. They've come up short in both club comps, and the La Rochelle defeat really looks like it's taken the wind out of the their sails. Ulster lost by a 6 minutes into the red conversion in their semifinal. Munster got derailed somewhat with the news of van Graan's departure and seemed to lose their way after that with some harsh defeats. Connacht started season well and then got overwhelmed once again.
Farrell & Co are going to need to work some magic to get them to gel again. His decision to use a lot of the Leinster players in the Ireland team may come back to haunt him on this tour if their cohesion and spirit is damaged.
The first test is probably their best chance to nick a win, but I don't see it happening.

Part of it was playing at the end of a long year, but we were very poor in the forwards anyway, Ireland were much better there so controlled the match... the key area for the ABs is the breakdown area where most of the possession is contested, in the first test we've got to be very aggressive at the breakdown from the start, have solid set pieces & hopefully our playmakers at halfback & 1st-five make good decisions.
