    Sorry for derailing the thread.

Getting back on track - this is a good article that shows the maturing of Rieko - he's come a long way the last couple of years.

All very good, but it is his decision making that he really needs to work on. He was behind the errors leading to two Irish tries. As an individual he's awesome, but decisions as 13 needs a lot of work

I'm interested to hear more about this.

The first irish try came from 18 phases and the ABs defence had numbered up correctly.

The second irish try came from Jordie shooting up leaving a slight overlap/gap on the outside.

            Really interesting reading.

I disagree with the comment that Jordie had no choice but to shoot up for the 2nd try given Rieko's speed and ability to close space late. To me that looks like two players first test of the season not used to defending together.

Yep you're probably right. It must be a tough line to tread for a high-level rugby player - where's the line between trusting your team-mate to do his job, and stepping in because you trust your own ability?

IMO you ALWAYs trust your team mate, because then if it doesn't happen it is their fault 😉

But really you've got to trust otherwise defensive systems will never work. More tries are given away by players covering someone that they don;t need to but can't help themselves than just leaving it to a team mate who fails

In a way I hope we lose next week, lose the Bledisloe and Rugby Championship, it’ll be the only way for us to get a new coach.

Yeah nah. That's pretty abysmal. And won't work anyway.

Even if we got rid of Foster, the next coach is on a hiding to nothing unless we get a caretaker in until after RWC. But I think Eddie isn't available.

                              Serious question:

If the new coach doesn't make much of a difference (as has happened before) what should be done then?

How many Bledisloe's and RC's would you want to lose to then get yet another coach?

                                Nah.

I think we can win next Saturday. Change a few tactics, not all of them because there was some good in amongst all the dropped ball, poor kicks and poor decision making.

A series win against Ireland would do wonders for the confidence of the squad. Nothing for granted and more work needed and all that. But for me that can be a great positive for improvement.

We'll win. I sound like you, but I'm confident that we'll see a response.

Until the next WC, we'll be up and down, then our next coach will have a chance to build a squad for the future.

Paps likely as captain. The key point is identifying the right game drivers now and having them in place - let's hope Fakatava is as good as he looks.

@gt12 I have great faith in Fakatava, would be keen to see him start against Argentina & possibly Aussie in the rugby championship, will be interesting to see how long Perofeta has to wait until he's introduced into the test 23

Yeah, I don't want to really think about first five, as we'll lose Barrett, Mo'unga most likely, and probably Dmac (possibly could stay if he became no.1).

That's a pretty sad state of affairs though eh.

If NZ squeak a win next week I very much doubt there'll be a host of celebratory hands in the air.

They would have been targeting 3 zip as the only pass mark.
