Both Ferald and Stuff reporting nothing coming today, meeting didn't happen (and it is not to do with Foster's future), and enhanced Schmidt roll aka deck chairs on the titanic

Tbh if foster was ok previously as assistant and he is demoted back to this role with Schmidt as head coach, while it’s not my preference, it’s better than the current setup.

@Chris-B I remember hearing a few stories about Fawcett back when he was my PE teacher. He's had an eventful career since then.

"Eventful" being quite the euphemism there.

I have had the misfortune of running across his path a few times in my life, luckily always briefly. Generally I think most people have a good side, but I've never met a person with a good word for him.

Anyone else find this type of journalism totally unacceptable

Worse than anything you get in the UK - and that's saying something.

              Why?

The dog-whistle implication that the coaching staff are racist for a start.

Comes across as a bloke who was denied the chance of a rant at the expected presser.

Care to share? I skim read through it all and couldn't find anything that seemed like an attack. Most of it just seemed like obvious observations.

Edit: Oh you did. Funny how much different people can read it. I read that as Reason being racist, rather than him saying the coaches are Racist. Reason thinks the brown faces aren't going that good and that they must need special care and attention.

              That too. Patronising BS.

But it was the statement that Foster didn't get the best out of specific racial groups which stood out. Classic dog-whistle accusation for me.

In answer to an earlier post, Christian Cullen married a Mandy Fawcett and I have nothing bad to say about her dad (then again I don't know any of them).

@Billy-Tell you realise "fish heads" is just slang that is (or at least was) commonly used to refer to the board/management etc in rugby?

I don't think it is specific to rugby, I heard the term years ago and not anything to do with rugby, not a slur as such, IIRC I heard it in relation to accountants (from an accountant about his boss)

I'm seeing a lot of reporting based on no press releases or conferences. Stunning insight from some shit journalists; "coach unlikely to be sacked before South Africa trip".

Tough for reporters when there is no press conference or press release.

Liam Napier is probably the most connected journo with NZR that there is.

well if he is retained I am not sure who has confidence in anyone.

When the current coaching group got Covid and Schmidt took the coaching reigns, that led to the only win.

Perhaps an interim change is enough to get through the Rugby Championship, and the board doesn't need to rush to get a long term replacement (or maybe Schmidt is the guy, who knows).

So I wouldn't read too much into Schmidt's involvement in the first test win - if all it took was 2-3 days to turn the AB's around I think the would have seen Foster achieve that, unless the only issue was player respect.

And even tougher when the NZR policy for what to do is "geez, I don't really know". However, in a vacuum rumour often becomes the truth given enough time in a typical organisation.
