How many weeks is it now since Sotutu has played rugby?

    7 and half weeks

PGS was given the first 2 tests, and he'll never be back. Then they abandoned an 8 on the bench.

He played for CM in a game I watched a few weeks back. It was a 50 min match.

      sorry

7.5 weeks since a meaningful game. Preseason NPC doesn't count

It's disgusting what they did with PGS. I'm also a fan of HS. They need minutes.

you know what, if i set aside my differences on teh actual selections, i like the fact they aren't budging. They know what they think their best team is, and they are not budging. I think, had Whitelock and Retallick been available the whole time, then Cane, Savea and Barrett would have started every test. And that's a good thing.

@mariner4life There hasn't been many opportunities for the players to play any other games if they weren't playing the Irish tests. Perofeta wasn't involved for Taranaki in that same tournament but Vaa'i was, so SP would be even rustier.

it's a significant flaw in our national structure.

@mariner4life I realise and appreciate the proud history of NZ Maori, but if there was a choice between NZ Maori and a NZ 2nd 15 playing the Irish, the latter should have done so.

IMO- the following players are the top ones that should be competing for the following positions.

8 - Sotutu, MMT, Grace, Jacobson, Sowakula
7 - Papalii, Savea, Cane, Blackadder
                      6 - Akira, Blackadder(when he's back), Robinson, Grace

I know he does not have many minutes of high level rugby, but Cameron Suafoa has to come under scrutiny. His physicality impressed me against Ireland A.

It will be interesting to see how Pearce refs the high ball contest at the weekend after what happened last weekend. Wouldn't surprise me if WR have had a word with the ref team to clamp down early so there's no repeat.

I am a true believer in Murphy's Law, and Murphy's Law would suggest if there is a clamp down it will be an AB who is carded.

                            Springbok team for the weekend

                            Springboks_Team.jpg

If Vermeulen is fit, then that is an upgrade on Wiese. Marx is on the bench, but will come on fresh in the second half as the lungs are burning at altitude.

Jesse Kriel on the wing, he'll chase well and he is quick, but I'm not sure he offers the same aerial threat. He'll do a decent job and he covers midfield.

Ox at loosehead is an upgrade on Nyakane.

6:2 split on the bench. More of the same at the weekend

Neither should have Arendse and Mapimpi given the height of out back three but they still made a meal of the high ball for us.

Mapimpi is very good under the high ball. Arendse...plenty has been written on him. Let's just say that his technique is questionable 😉

It will be interesting to see how Pearce refs the high ball contest at the weekend after what happened last weekend. Wouldn't surprise me if WR have had a word with the ref team to clamp down early so there's no repeat.

Yes but he shouldn't be outjumping taller blokes.

Will Jordan is 188cm. Mapimpi is 184cm. Mapimpi was moving forward. Jordan wasn't. The player with momentum will generally beat a player doing a standing jump.

That's piss weak excuses for me. But I take your point.

                            🙂 Thanks, I think.

I guess the point I'm making is, how many high kicks we put up and we lost all but one in the air? I mean, these guys aren't Israel Folau. We should be getting at least parity.

I do agree with you. The technique was off. There were a couple of kicks that there just seemed to be no communication on. The one where J Barrett got injured was when he collided with Sam Cane.

The AB shepherds were not very good.

...and we had exactly the same problem with the high ball against Ireland: their kicks were accurate and they chased well and we gave our catchers no protection, while our kicks were inaccurate, chased poorly, and they shepherded extremely well. But still we have done nothing to address it - if anything getting worse. The Irish showed us what to do, but we are not capable of following their example.
That is poor coaching and teamwork. Clarke and Barrett, and to a lesser extent Jordan, are excellent in the air.

I remember a couple that only went like 30m and we didn't even have a chaser within 20m when it came down. It was pretty disgusting and someone mentioned Jordan seeming like a petulant child, which seemed quite pertinent when you look at stuff like that - where was the intensity, passion....the want?! They just seemed like "fuck this", you can almost taste the disinterest.

The persecution complex on this thread is getting tiresome

                              Until it happens eh

Dalton was the best 7 in NZ in SR, yet his brief moments in black this year, to me show how the environment is affecting people.

We know Fozzie has mad love for Ardie at 8, but the fact he has given Sotutu nothing at all is concerning, why? has Sotutu done something, does Fozzie just think Ardie is so crucial to whatever structure he wants to play, or does he just not think Sotutu is upto it?

How many weeks is it now since Sotutu has played rugby?

Have to think 1 of Grace or MMT will go on EOYT, despite them giving PGS a cap.

James Parsons made some interesting comments in the podcast this week. He's been there and knows how it works... less vanilla than The Breakdown boys. Talked about how when one part of the game plan isn't functioning... It affects the rest of the game plan. Then the confidence goes.. and it's a spiral effect.. talked about how the Crusaders are so well drilled... everyone knows their job.. and is damn confident doing it! But that takes time... and a good coaching system.

@kiwi_expat was just watching Mehrts on 'between two posts'. Low budget Stan production that produces more insights and engagement than the expensive but anodyne Breakdown
