It will be interesting to see how Pearce refs the high ball contest at the weekend after what happened last weekend. Wouldn't surprise me if WR have had a word with the ref team to clamp down early so there's no repeat.

I am a true believer in Murphy's Law, and Murphy's Law would suggest if there is a clamp down it will be an AB who is carded.

The persecution complex on this thread is getting tiresome

Nothing to do with feeling persecuted ffs. I was more suggesting an AB will end doing a reckless/silly challenge and get carded. Murphy's Law and all that...

it feels like we are at that point where, if it was lower levels, you just go back to basics. Shit hasn't been going right, your patterns are gone, everything is muddled, and the finger pointing starts.

A good coach chucks the play book out for a week and says "fuck it boys, this week it's basics". Smash on to the ball. Play narrower. kick a lot. Focus on the set piece.
Take all the cloud and doubt out of the players heads, and just play code.

We won't of course, we'll try to do the same shit "but better" but if ever i saw a squad that needed to clear their heads it is this one.

It feels like there's a real lack of detail in everything the ABs are doing (with the exception of Jason Ryan who has just got there and already made some improvements).

For example - the kick chase issue -we know we need to diffuse the high ball but there's no detail around making that happen - as Mils says in the video above - it starts from pressuring the kicker, then having support players in front of and behind the catcher - in other words there's a lot of detail around it and it's a team effort.

Really? You're not arguing a change in the coaching staff has brought rapid improvements, are you?

I've been told no-one was saying that... :fishing_pole:

How many weeks is it now since Sotutu has played rugby?

            7 and half weeks

PGS was given the first 2 tests, and he'll never be back. Then they abandoned an 8 on the bench.

It's disgusting what they did with PGS. I'm also a fan of HS. They need minutes.

you know what, if i set aside my differences on teh actual selections, i like the fact they aren't budging. They know what they think their best team is, and they are not budging. I think, had Whitelock and Retallick been available the whole time, then Cane, Savea and Barrett would have started every test. And that's a good thing.

Selection consistency is a good thing, but there often comes a time when you need to say "fuck it, let's shake some things up".

Think that time is now as there's little to lose.

If the Ioane brothers play this weekend, I'd like to see a bunch of aggressive, dickhead, grub play. Head rubs, insults, shoving players, elbows leaning in to players on the ground, getting stuck in and being the biggest dicks they can be. Take it to them in all ways.

Only if we are not getting beaten again. It's embarrassing otherwise.

Totally agree, but Foster seems to think he is on the right track and that they are one game away from something special.

players in interviews this year have been saying a lot "we just need to cut down the errors" and while this is true, and a few are, or look, unforced

a lot of our errors come because the way we are playing with the ball is putting as much pressure on us as it is the opposition. Every catch is contested, or fraught with danger, because we are throwing a lot of really tight passes, or a guy under pressure has to pass to another guy in a split second. We're inviting errors, which brings its on level of pressure when they add up, and the whole thing snowballs.

We need 10 to stand a bit deeper.

Always throwing wide balls becomes predictable, as Ireland realised, and getting caught behind gain line.

So need option of the short pass to a straight line runner to create some doubt/room.

Maybe even occasional chip over top.

The other problem with Foster is that he picks sides to save his skin rather than develop the team.

He doesn't have a long term vision so he picks teams entirely on the upcoming week - which ends up being so conservative that it's crippling.

He refuses to try Jordie at 12, Jordan at 15, Ardie at 7, Hoskins at 8 etc.

He refuses to cut loose the likes of Frizell, Ennor and Laulala.

He needed 12 months of evidence to drop Taylor for Samisoni.

With his job on the line this week he's not going to do anything bold.

I’m inclined to start with more direct team.

Would be technical call, but possibly Newell to start. Rest tighties same. Cane, Ardie and Vaa’i. Richie to 10 and BB to 15. Assuming Jordie crocked. Rest starters same.

Hard carries and kicking for corners/50:22s.

Switch up at 35 - 55. BB to 10, RTS for Havili (Clarke running decoys/power thrust), WJ to 15 and Reece on.

In forwards upspeed with Paps and Akira. Taylor and De Groot. Lomax/Ta’avao.

Oh, and let the boys go out on the piss tonight.

Totally agree, but Foster seems to think he is on the right track and that they are one game away from something special.

Up until Ireland 2, I thought that might be the case as there were 20-30 min periods when the team looked a completely different beast and that would start to cement itself. It hasn't.

Yo're right, letting some pressure out often works. As long as the media doesn't get any photos
