Yellowstone
I've watched two seasons and quite frankly the improbability of it all makes me hesitant to continue in the assumed (well founded by experience) belief that shows tend to get more ridiculous rather than less the longer they go.
Can anyone disabuse me of this notion?
It's all ridiculousness, and if that's not what you're looking for... yeah, give it up.
BUT - don't let it put off you the "prequel" 1883. Different monster.
Some ridiculousness, but a different class, and worth giving a go.I watched 1883 first. So far the prequel is much better IMO.
Yep.
Two very different things...
I do wonder if 1883 was somebody's project that couldn't get green-lit, only eventually ever got made by riding off the commercial (stupid-people's eyeballs) success of Yellowstone, and just shoehorning in the 'Dutton name' to make it a "prequel" and therefore suddenly a guaranteed cash-cowI don't think so as it was created by Taylor Sheridan, the (overrated) creator of Yellowstone/Wind River/Hell or Highwater. He was good as the deputy in Sons though.
@antipodean As you may have guessed from the above I found Yellowstone to be pretty awful. All the ladies at my work loved it though - so maybe Sheridan is actually a genius as he's created show both ladies and (some) blokes love.

The Terminal List, the latest from Chris Pratt and Amazon Prime.
have heard that is pretty decent, is on my list...
Am loving Modern Family, almost through S2, problem is, Mrs TR also loves it, meaning I cant watch without her!
So many awesome characters, but Cam, Luke & Gloria are my faves at moment.
The Terminal List
I read the book recently, and yeah... can see it could make decent TV.
The guy who wrote it though... actual retired Navy SEAL, very "rah rah US-A, US-A, guns are awesome, liberal snowflakes trying to stop me owning a rocket-launcher don't understand the REAL world, etc, etc".
Also amusing - he kinda throws some shade on people in the book who "just want to say they've got a Navy SEAL as a friend". And then goes on in the LOOOONG thanks/credits - to mention the fact that he's obviously spent time hanging out with Larry Ellison, Jimmy Spithill, amongst others.
As an employee of Larry, I certainly wouldn't want to suggest that maybe Larry is one of those chaps who bought themselves a Navy SEAL 'friend', but...Just finished watching, was a watchable popcorn action thriller show that Amazon seem to be corning the market on.
One thing annoyed me which I was wondering was in the book:
##spoiler
So from the first time you see Ben it was obvious, and boringly obvious, that he was going to wind up being one the "baddies". The trope of the best mate being in on the conspiracy needs to get shot on a boat and dumped in the water never to be seen in a script again.

I loved Yellowstone (and no, I'm not a chick at @Nepia 's work).
But you certainly do have to look past the absurdity of some of the events. I mean, right from the very start when they deal with that bloke they want out by throwing him off a cliff,...1883 completely different, I was engrossed, though I'm not sure if I actually "enjoyed" it!

Fabulous series on Apple TV

we both love it, don't generally have an issue looking past the implausible
funnily enough the storyline i enjoyed the most, might be after where youve got too but doesn't sounds like you're continuing, was Jimmy being sent off to work on the 666 range (weird that is an actual working range), felt very different feel....no crazy plots...seemed like much closer to real work on these places. I believe its also being spun off so it probably had different writers hence the feel

@Kiwiwomble I'm happy to ignore some stuff in order to enjoy a show, but I had already invested years into Sons of Anarchy and 1 season of Yellowstone made me think of that, on a ranch...I expect it'd be one of those shows I'd watch and enjoy enough to keep watching, but had enough stuff I really wanted to watch
-
@taniwharugby i think for me there is definitely a part where i just enjoy WHERE they live...makes me want to buy someone back in the south island...you know...when i win lotto

i will both a good go

Not sure that's strictly legal.
Like @taniwharugby I too expected to like Yellowstone as I'm a Costner fan, but I really couldn't suspend my disbelief enough for it while realising I don't really like Taylor Sheridan's stuff.
Funnily enough if @kruse had mentioned earlier that 1884 was different in style/tone than Yellowstone I may actually have given the first episode a watch, but my cheap Paramount subscription has now ended and I'm not going to renew it again (I watched one show in a year.)

So I’m giving Rings of Power a go and I’m no JRR fanboy so have no issue with lore, so it’s not that.
I’m most of the way through ep1 and I’m thinking this is expensive dogshit. Not much of a story so far, disjointed and with pretty much wooden acting. Please tell me it gets better quickly.

Nope. I'm watching cos it's ok, but the characters are totally unlikeable. I'm holding on for improvements.

The Terminal List
This is a script you'll recognise instantly - nothing new here and the twists are all obvious. The action sequences need work for believability but that's a common irritation when it comes to Hollywood. At this point I'm starting to come around to the notion cinematographers/ directors simply don't know how to portray space and action effectively.
But having said that, I found it an enjoyable watch and the fat guy from Parks and Rec does a very good job.
It should be a one season wonder,

I actually think it might be a multi season one as it appears to have done well.
TBH, I would be interested in how they do it with the main "storyline" completed.
Agree with you about the action sequences.
