Yeah I will always wear one. Full faced one too. I fell off once and my helmet away scraped like hell at the front. That would have been my face if I had an open faced helmet on. Not to mention all the bugs that would be hitting ya face.
When I was much younger I t-boned a motorcyclist when I was on a push bike. He had an open faced helmet and it was his face that brought him to a stop. Not pretty even at really low speed. It had a lasting impact on me.
I find it interesting that you hold the same position on this as a mate of mine who was also a cop: Shouldn't be illegal, but stupid if you don't.

Yes, same principle applies. I get that legislation and enforcement was considered necessary to adjust behaviour at the time, but laws shouldn't exist to prevent people from making decisions that impact themselves the most.

Totally agree. Some people lack an awareness on impacts on those other than themselves though.
Using the example of helmets, thing about the ambos that have to scrape the contents of your skull off the road or people that may be first on the scene and have to deal with the results.
I can still vividly remember an incident as a child where we had to stop and assist at an accident where a non seatbelt wearer had their head through a windscreen (not safety glass in those days) and my father holding the head until the ambulance arrived some that the person's neck wasn't cut open. -

But from an emergency worker point of view, most accidents have little impact, especially in those that have been on the job for a while. Some of the things you see are fascinating. It can even be described as exciting.
Dealing with family of crash victims is a different kettle of fish though. -

Yeah when I was a teen riding a twist n go, I was going a bit fast in a parking lot when a lady pulled out, saw me and froze. Went over the bonnet and landed on the other side, mid flip - fair to say I probably would have been bald now if I didn't have a helmet.
