Zion Going returning to Utah Warriors.
It still amazes me how many players get signed in the MLR who don't even play at NPC level.
@Stargazer Zion was part of the Northland HP squad last year but was’nt selected when the final cut for the Taniwha came around so headed off to the MLR ,came back to club footy this year and looked a completely different player for his Mid Northern team who took out the Northland club comp this year .
You are right there many players who don’t play NPC that pick up contracts in the MLR , I have heard the level is similar to heartland rugby but that was a few years ago , since then the standard may have improved. -

Wider guys are on weekly contracts with no guarantees for pay.
Didn’t realise that
Do you know if it’s the same for every wider group player? For instance it would make sense for the Blues to have another specialist lock hang around the group.. would they ever give one guy a 3 month contract? Or is that not allowed?
@Duluth I have heard Liam Hallam Eames is heading off to the MLR
Sam Caird I believe is first cab of the rank if there is required injury cover or full cover in the Blues.
Allen Craig had a solid season for the Taniwha and we saw some added physicality but I do wonder if his height might be against him in the upside has a great work rate . -

Any idea what a MLR contract is worth?
@Bovidae hard to say what guys like Maa get.
Lower level kiwi guys have said 15-25k usd
With all living costs paid for. Not huge wickets. Some guys would get maybe double that.

@muddyriver You sure about this? I have heard NZR pay a pool of players to train full time in the case of injuries.

@Bovidae anything from 13k -45k , there is a salary cap
Star players can earn up to a capped maximum of 45k per season
Senior players with international experience 20k-30k
Mid range players with first class experience ,anything between 10k to 20k
Part time players are on a week to week basis salary
@muddyriver , your pretty much on the mark -
And here's another one:
Manawatū hooker Siua Maile has signed with Benetton (one season plus option for a second).

@muddyriver , your pretty much on the markInteresting. I posed similar question to a group I am involved with. The number of kiwis in MLR this year is huge and growing. It is a decent off season earner and the standard has to be better than Heartland now.

@Kiwiwomble They have seriously miscalculated their new signings height by about ten or fifteen centimetres.
Speaking of ex Hurricanes growing has anyone seen Neemia Tialata lately ?

@Stargazer That’s interesting I thought he’s be first/second can off the rank for the Canes when Dane Coles inevitably breaks down and we can’t select Aumua.
-
@Stargazer , Josh Syms is moving to the states to coach MLR , does mean his time at the Magpies is done ..?,
George Konia has moved back to the Bay @taniwharugby
Could be an option -

Taranaki playmaker Jayson Potroz will play in the Major League Rugby competition after signing with the New England Free Jacks.
The 30-year-old, who missed the second half of Taranaki’s national provincial championship season because of a recurring shoulder injury, will join a number of New Zealand players at the Boston-based club.
They include Taranaki team-mates Jesse Parete and Mills Sanerivi, former Chiefs loose forward Mitch Jacobson and Hawke’s Bay prop Joel Hintz.
Potroz replaces former Taranaki utility back Beaudein Waaka who has signed with Japanese club Kobelco Steelers.
-
Hayden Cripps was already overseas, but he has signed with Urayasu D-Rocks (formerly known under the name NTT Comms Shining Arcs and then Shining Arcs Tokyo-Bay Urayasu).
-
Jackson Garden-Bachop has signed with Hanazono Kintetsu Liners in Japan.
-
@Stargazer he is still signed for Northland in 2023 though
