The Don had a decent innings in life - getting to 92.

But, Andy went past him there too - making it to 95. I bet he had a beer the night he passed Don's tally there, too!! 🙂

Steady on, Jimmy Adams averaged 87 after 12 tests….look how he turned out.

Vinod Kambli is another who springs to mind. Mike Hussey maybe too.

This kid probably isn’t even as good as our boy Conway

At least we can count on the Wellington weather to reduce the scoring rate 🙂

@MN5 Lawrence might have been three-times as good as Andy Ganteaume - but, he turned out to be allergic to grass.

Which is interesting for a West Indian. 🙂

I guess he got hayfever if he was a normal person.

To expand on this, bowling first should only be considered in extremely bowler friendly conditions where you are confident you will roll them for less than 200, less than 150 ideally. Bowling first in both of these tests is just idiotic.

If you bat first and manage 250, even if they reply with 400 you are still a good chance of setting them a tricky total to chase. On the flip side, if you score 250 in response to them making 400 batting first, you are fucked and it's just a matter of how bigger total they want to set you.

To me, us choosing to bowl just says to England we are scared of your bowling lineup and don't think we will survive the first hour. It's a really negative mindset.

You basically always bowl first at the Basin. It is the only time you get anything out of the pitch.

I know teams bowling first at the Basin have historically had more success, but that's also pretty team dependant. Quite a few recent wins bowling first were lop sided affairs between mis-matched sides, eg. us slapping the Bangles (twice) and WI, or Aus slapping us, those results probably stay the same regardless of who bowls first. Of the last 15 tests it looks like 6 won by team bowling first, 4 by team batting first, and 5 draws. Given how much flatter the deck is these days I think we give up our overall advantage in the test as the likelihood of us skittling a team like England in the first hour is pretty low.

@No-Quarter we have 4 front line bowlers so want to bowl when conditions are most favourable. Or so I thought. Just phenomenal again from Brook.

To me having a team at 21/3 show you made the right decision with the toss. What happened from there was poor execution with the ball and some good batting.
