@Chris said in All Blacks 2024 - looking forward:

Rumour is George Bell to be named in the AB squad on Monday.

Has it been confirmed that Taukei'aho is ruled out of the series? Leads you to believe he is. Taylor and Aumua to hold down the fort and hopefully stay healthy.

Might sound harsh but I don’t think George Bell deserves a cap yet, or even be in the full squad yet.

1 thing I think we can all agree on here is that the emergence of Proctor is the best thing that could happen for the centre position in the All Blacks squad.

If Proctor gets a chance and plays out of his skin, awesome. If Rieko Ioane continues to get picked, he has a young and in form centre right behind him waiting for his chance. The competitive edge will bring out the best in both players and keep them honest. I’m not saying Ioane has become complacent, but he hasn’t exactly had a centre breathing down his neck since he’s been the All Blacks 13(ALB the nearest).

It’s a win win and we should all be glad Proctor has improved as much as he has.

100%, it's good for the ABs that's for sure. Let's just hope Proctor gets in.

Lol how is Billy Proctor all of a sudden unfavoured. He was clearly the form centre throughout the majority of Super rugby and has been kicking the door down for a couple years now with his consistency. I'll be very surprised if he wasn't selected, especially because Holland is selecting the centres and he pushed for his case when he was coaching the Canes aswell.

        My opinion only.

Could be wrong and not watched him close enough. But he's least favoured of the most mentioned to me, and I can see the attraction of Havili, and Proctor is the guy I'd leave out.

Sorry, to alll the Canes Mafia.

I guess it makes sense but jeez it’s harsh on RR. Bring in the young guy who has plenty of years ahead of him and is potentially the future I guess is the thought process.

There does seem to be a real squeeze on now for squad places. Albeit, if only amongst fan chat.

It appears that we may not have many new caps in the ABs even though we have lost 8 players overseas after the RWC.

Is a 32 man squad too small?

The Boks named a lot of new faces (different circumstances I know) but I would be dissapointed if we don’t

              We only need 23.

It's only too small if we're looking to fit all our pet provincial picks in.

@DaGrubster Proctor is easily pushing Ioane to be the top centre in NZ. If Havili pushes him out that would be bloody disappointing considering he doesn't even play 13. I don't think it will happen though, each specific position selector has been watching each NZ player closely all year and based on that Proctor's consistency should see him through. Conrad Smith came out the other day and to him Proctor was a certainty in this squad, he obviously reminds him of how he played in the Black jersey.

There needs to be a number of fresh faces in this side, if we select largely the same squad as last year we won't be improving much IMO.

A former Hurricanes player campaigning for a current Hurricanes player, well I never….

Proctor has been excellent this season. The only question I think they’ll be asking is in a small squad of 32 and with Ioane, Jordie and ALB certainties, does the other back we pick need to more of a midfield/wing specialist option? And before anyone says it, Ioane is not that guy any more IMO.

I just the judgment of our greatest test centre over Holland any day.

Nah Ioane can cover wing IMO. We need specialist players in this squad. I'm sick of shitter players getting in just because there's a chance they may be needed on the wing. If Ioane has to move out to the wing for 15 mins of a test then so be it.

@george33 Proctor has played a few games at 12 before and he played a whole season at 15 for Wellington a few years ago. But he's mostly an out and out centre which the ABs honestly need.

There's no need for utilities because Ioane can play wing if we really need him to.

This squad naming is going to be very intriguing indeed.

Holland's selecting the centres right? He's coached Proctor so he knows how much of an asset he is to any team. He was quoted saying he would have picked Proctor last year for the ABs if he was in that coaching setup. Proctor has gone up a notch in performance this year so when I put two and two together, it's hard to see Proctor missing out. This is about the third time Proctor has been on the cusp of AB selection, he's been knocking on the door for a long time and I think he deserves his chance.

I wouldn't be picking Proctor to cover 12 either, we don't need him to. Conrad Smith didn't and look how successful he was in the black jersey. We have enough versatility in the backs.

I get that. Would prefer Rikkirik. He's looked t h e goods this year after going off for a couple, but can see the attraction of Bell longer term

@george33 AJ in front of Proctor, that's hysterical. Remember Holland is selecting the centres so you may aswell lock in Proctor now.

Why? I'd Holland that close minded?

You're pretty much saying that Holland will pick Proctor because he's coached him before, rather than looking wider at all the available talent.

I really hope he has a broader mind than that.

Imagine if Razor picked Cullen Grace because he knew him from the Crusaders.

Has it been confirmed that Taukei'aho is ruled out of the series? Leads you to believe his is. Taylor and Aumua to hold down the fort and hopefully stay healthy.

Apparantly he is out for the series

I guess it makes sense but jeez it’s harsh on RR. Bring in the young guy who has plenty of years ahead of him and it’s potentially the future I guess is the thought process.

It seems to be the idea.

Didn’t The Breakdown imply that several young bucks would be invited to train with ABs? Bell would fit that bill, and could get help from Flynn.
