He looks to have the tools. Tall, athletic, skilful. Looked test level starting in the ABs opening test in Argie last year.

Just needs to string together games.

@Frank I've seen Lord play live plenty of times, starting from a skinny beanpole in 1st XV rugby and age-group rugby. As @KiwiMurph says, he has all the attributes for an international lock.

Mako running out a pretty decent set of backs. Interestingly, no sign of Finlay Christie.

Pretty disappointing that this game (against Southland) is being played in Christchurch. I reckon they could have filled Trafalgar Park.

Logistically the best option for Southland though. Getting back to Invercargill from Nelson is a bit of a pain. While in Chch both teams have to travel and the costs are shared.

@SouthernMann Yeah - maybe both teams have flown down this morning and are flying home tonight - zero accommodation costs.

It's kicking off at 12.30 (in 15 minutes) on a Friday in neutral territory, so they're obviously not planning on big gate takings.

@Yeetyaah The NZH was wrong about the venue for the Waikato-HB game. It's in Taupō. This is often the venue due to its central location.

HB has had a couple of RS defences while this must be Waikato's one and only pre-season match.
