Not sure if this is real, but it gives some perspective on an Olympic swimmer vs reasonable "average Joe" swimmers. These athletes are out of this world.

I'm not surprised. Pro/elite athletes are like a different sub species. Just that much faster and stronger in every way relating to their sport

And perfection of technique. My wife takes a third of my strokes to swim faster, for longer.

As much as I don't think butterfly should be a thing, one has to marvel that there are people who can not only do it without drowning, but do it so well they could beat joe average doing any other stroke over 100m.

I tried running at the pace the marathon medal contenders will be, I managed to last about 100m before I was gassed. Its just incredible that humans can sustain that for 2 hours.

Years ago I ran the Auckland half marathon. Not long after I'd finished my race the top runners were finishing. Crazy

Is there any evidence against the Chinese swimmer…or is just that he’s Chinese?

              Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

But if you google him now it’s all about the speculation of being a drugs cheat.

              Absolutely shameful.

I mean if his name was Marchand no one would bat an eyelid.

The Chinese do have history so im not saying he’s definitely clean but it strikes me as a bit of racism for the moment.

Yes they most definitely would. Anybody who knows anything about swimming knows this doesn't pass the smell test. Him being Chinese doesn't exactly help given their history. Christ, accusations were levelled at Ian Thorpe back in the day. More racism?

              If he was Russian?

              ?

Would it be "racist" to question a freak performance from a competitor from a country with form in doping if he was Russian?

I’d be suspicious if the Russians didn’t cheat. That’s my default setting.

I seem to have stirred a hornets nest here somewhat.

Both the Chinese and the Russians have been caught cheating at one time or another. And such an exceptional performance out of the blue will raise eyebrows. Regardless of the ethnicity of the athlete

i get the want to have those visuals around the city for the two last legs, but swimming has been banned in that river for a really long time for a reason.

Couple of athletes have infections and are missing this relay

On look and outcomes, it reminds me of the 1990's era report on Lake Rotorua referring to it then as an "unflushed toilet".

My parents made me join a swimming club in standard 4 through to form 2 and during that time I pretty much won every race I entered at my school swimming sports. But I gave it up by 3rd form and made the finals but was well back in the pack. By 4th form I wasn't even making finals.

Just a little bit of technique and training helps.

I can barely dog paddle now.

Disaster for NZ as Wilde caught up in a crash rounding a corner during the bike. Didn't look too serious though as he managed to recover and carry on.

Team GB out in front in the triathlon. NZ 13th team to hit the water in the second leg. That crash has likely dented NZ medal chances. France are dead last in 15th

Germany win the Team Triathlon relay. An amazing effort by their last athlete when the British seemed to have that absolutely sown up on the last lap of the bike ride.

The organisers have changed their mind about the photo finish.

                                      It's now USA 2nd, UK 3rd.

Is it just me or does it feel like Team NZ is in a rut.
