Not sure if this is real, but it gives some perspective on an Olympic swimmer vs reasonable "average Joe" swimmers. These athletes are out of this world.

I'm not surprised. Pro/elite athletes are like a different sub species. Just that much faster and stronger in every way relating to their sport

And perfection of technique. My wife takes a third of my strokes to swim faster, for longer.

As much as I don't think butterfly should be a thing, one has to marvel that there are people who can not only do it without drowning, but do it so well they could beat joe average doing any other stroke over 100m.

My parents made me join a swimming club in standard 4 through to form 2 and during that time I pretty much won every race I entered at my school swimming sports. But I gave it up by 3rd form and made the finals but was well back in the pack. By 4th form I wasn't even making finals.

Just a little bit of technique and training helps.

I can barely dog paddle now.

Disaster for NZ as Wilde caught up in a crash rounding a corner during the bike. Didn't look too serious though as he managed to recover and carry on.

Triathlon relay about to start. Swimming in the Seine looks and sounds about as appealing as diving into a sewer...

Team GB out in front in the triathlon. NZ 13th team to hit the water in the second leg. That crash has likely dented NZ medal chances. France are dead last in 15th

Germany win the Team Triathlon relay. An amazing effort by their last athlete when the British seemed to have that absolutely sown up on the last lap of the bike ride.

The organisers have changed their mind about the photo finish.

                    It's now USA 2nd, UK 3rd.

Great class from Mike Cavendish, performance Director for GB Triathlon in his interview with BBC

They needed to check it, they did, they made the correct call

I don't think anyone has crashed out who we thought was a serious medal chance. If the canoeists fail then we should be concerned

Tough Games these. Some countries are throwing huge money at the Olympics. Difficult for everyone else.

We're on track to have a very good games, based on prevoius performance. The last three games we have been excpetional - but prior to that, it's been tough sledding.

I know it is unlikely but I would just love to see Eliza McCartney win a medal.

I remember watching her in Rio and that was my highlight of the games (even though it was a bronze).

Same. I was sent to some swim coaching by Pic Parkhouse at Wharenui pool in Christchurch and went from hardly being able to swim 50m to getting top 3 finishes at school swimming events. I remember he worked on strong starts and turns, anything in between was us working on our strength and fitness
