I don't think anyone has crashed out who we thought was a serious medal chance. If the canoeists fail then we should be concerned

Tough Games these. Some countries are throwing huge money at the Olympics. Difficult for everyone else.

We're on track to have a very good games, based on prevoius performance. The last three games we have been excpetional - but prior to that, it's been tough sledding.

I know it is unlikely but I would just love to see Eliza McCartney win a medal.

I remember watching her in Rio and that was my highlight of the games (even though it was a bronze).

The shooters have all got together this year and decided to go a bit more Hollywood

I'm not surprised. Pro/elite athletes are like a different sub species. Just that much faster and stronger in every way relating to their sport

And perfection of technique. My wife takes a third of my strokes to swim faster, for longer.

As much as I don't think butterfly should be a thing, one has to marvel that there are people who can not only do it without drowning, but do it so well they could beat joe average doing any other stroke over 100m.

My parents made me join a swimming club in standard 4 through to form 2 and during that time I pretty much won every race I entered at my school swimming sports. But I gave it up by 3rd form and made the finals but was well back in the pack. By 4th form I wasn't even making finals.

Just a little bit of technique and training helps.

I can barely dog paddle now.

Same. I was sent to some swim coaching by Pic Parkhouse at Wharenui pool in Christchurch and went from hardly being able to swim 50m to getting top 3 finishes at school swimming events. I remember he worked on strong starts and turns, anything in between was us working on our strength and fitness

I assume that's a show for overweight people? Nah, I've been relatively healthy for a decade now after being overweight all through my 20s and 30s.

I just don't swim, other than bob around in the ocean/pool for recreation.

Molly Caudery out of the Pole Vault. Nina Kennedy now the big favourite.

I think Australia are now almost certain to finish above the British in the Medal table.

How did they work out the finalists? Why don't they just have another round at 4:60 or so?

                                      I am confused.

                                        From Stuff:

Some clarification. McCartney is through to the final as one of the 11 to leap above 4.55m. Another nine, including Ayris and McTaggart, are joining them on countback after clearing 4.40m with their first effort.

I see that only 11 cleared 4.55 so it kinda makes sense.
There will be 20 in the final.

The favourite skipped 4.40 and failed all attempts at 4.55 so she is out. That is a bit of a blunder.
