So,...by my count that's 13 of the Blues starting XV in this year's final that have made the ABs or the AB XV. According to my forecast, Riccitelli has missed out to his team mate Eklund, and Akira has signed in Japan.

    Hoskins got picked!

So are Razor and Ryan still fluffybunnies, or what?

Five hours and the silence is deafening, guys! 🙂

While you ponder all this, some light reading...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_landing_conspiracy_theories

How many Blues are in the ABs squad?

Supposedly there needed to be an rticle written about how Razor and Ryan wouldn't work with Blues forwards.

But it foundered when they pointed to Tu'ungafasi, Tuipolotu, Darry and Papali'i.

    Beauden, Rieko, Caleb, Mark, Steven

off the bench (but I wouldn't normally pick him) off the bench (don't blame them, he's been injured, but still), off the bench (unless an emergency) and lastly, sent on another moon landing...while they play Sam Cane, because of his top speed, workrate, excellent tackling technique, turnovers... If he's so good for team morale, make him team manager...

I'm not a big DMac basher but we do have a quality backup/reserve talent at 10 issue...

Dalton started the first tests of the season, so it's a bit hard to argue they wouldn't work with him.

The only forward who was probably a bit hard done by was Hoskins - and that was blown into a major conspiracy (there was no way he was making this A team according to some) - which has now pretty much been debunked.

Not having a crack at you in the slightest. But there's quite a few in Blues land who have been well over the top.

@Chris-B how many crusaders? The ones that couldn't even make a final...

That's them , the ones that stank the joint out all season and still beat both the Chiefs and the Blues.

Oh right. Who did they lose to? Beat the finalists and still couldn't make the top 8.... the absence of Blackadder really hit hard.

To be honest it did. As did Codie Taylor's sabbatical.

When they came back, those two were instrumental in getting the better of the Blues scrum and loosies.

          But, among the missed were:

Williams - tore his hamstring 20 minutes into the first game
Taylor - Sabbatical for most of the season
          Jaeger - gone to Ireland
Gallagher - injured for the season
          Whitelock - retired to Japan
SBarrett - injured for most of the season
          Havili-Talitui - Moana Pacifica
Blackadder - injured for most of the season
          Mo'unga - gone to Japan
Burke - injured for most of the season
          Fainga'anuku - gone to France
          Goodhue - gone offshore
          Ennor - Injured all season
          Nanai - gone somewhere
          Jordan - injured all season

Always going to be a bit of a re-building year.

@Landers92 We will be - even with Penney as a coach.

But, there's 11 test players in that XV, so I'm a bit sceptical about every other team losing that much every year.

I mean, Fihaki over ENS(maybe injured so excusable), JRK and Z.Sullivan is an absolute joke within itself. Dallas McLeod should consider himself extremely lucky but hey, he wears the correct jersey during super season. Don’t even get me started on the Crusaders 3rd string hooker who has somehow managed to sneak his way into this squad… if you read above, there was no silence, I pointed it out. It’s a shame but it is what it is, Razor likes to pick for comfort.

I’m pleasantly surprised we didn’t see more in there so it could be a lot worse but we can deal with it due to how many others are actually being given a chance here. Some much more deserving than others.

Yeah, I stated earlier in this thread that it's a disgrace that McAlister is so high up, couldn't be bothered writing it out again, nothing to do with silence. We all share the same thoughts on Fihaki including Crusaders fans, but we're warned so it's no surprise.

Good message from Clayton. But does it apply to the full selectors? We’ve had Cantabs just yesterday claiming Ryan and/or Robertson will never work with him.

That's fair but on the flip side I think there is genuine discussion to be had around the loose forwards

The loose forwards selection on paper seemed unbalanced, has performed poor to middling and yet no changes at all in that group have occurred across 3 squads (with the exception of the departing Sam Cane coming in once up to speed).

Meanwhile the best performing loose forward trio in Super has one player who has been tried and now can't make a 23, and the other two can't make the AB squad (one of whom would not be departing offshore if the selectors had interest in him). Throw in that this coaching setup is chasing Frizell to be in the squad next year.....

Supposedly there needed to be an rticle written about how Razor and Ryan wouldn't work with Blues forwards.

But it foundered when they pointed to Tu'ungafasi, Tuipolotu, Darry and Papali'i

So 3 forwards and Dalton who has been unsighted for the past how many tests?

Dalton started the first tests of the season, so it's a bit hard to argue they wouldn't work with him.

The only forward who was probably a bit hard done by was Hoskins - and that was blown into a major conspiracy (there was no way he was making this A team according to some) - which has now pretty much been debunked.

Not having a crack at you in the slightest. But there's quite a few in Blues land who have been well over the top.

Loose forward mix has been shit, with the coaches unable to grip Ardie's drop in effectiveness. I am an Ardie fan, see back to my posts, he was the best AB for about 3 or so years. But not this year, and he needs to be replaced. Sotutu should have been in the suad to do that, and he wasn't. Instead we get Cane who should have been left right out, his last game was utter wank and even when he plays well he is not advancing our long term outlook

Where and when was thus announced. Any replacement for Bower?

Yeah - but, is that unusual?

Last year the Crusaders won Super rugby for the 7th consecutive season and they had no loose forwards in the initial RWC squad. Blackadder got a late call up and played a minnow game or two.

Paps has been fighting Cane - who's been 1st choice for the past 5 years. I find it a little bit odd they've stuck with Sam given he's leaving, but presumably he's giving them things they think Paps isn't. One thing it's certainly not evidence of is Crusaders' bias.

Razor said his closest call was between Sotutu and Sititi and much of the past week has been veiled insinuations that he'll be shown to be a lying fuck. The jury is in and it's found in favour of Razor.

On Akira, there's been a lot of hypothetical conversations posited about what was said between him and Razor. I have no idea and I occasionally suspect some posters of being Akira (or his Mum), so if they actually know something they should come out and say it.

But the selection patterns do not say that Ryan had no interest in him.

We are going around in circles here so I don't want to clog up the thread but just a few comments in response.

                                        • it's not exactly apples to apples to compare a RWC year with limited build-up and the first year of a new cycle. Heck in the RWC squad because of the weird selection decision there was only 5 loosies picked at all.

                                        • the oddness of Papalii completely falling out of favour is exactly what I'm talking about

                                        • as I said earlier in the thread I was pleased to see form players being picked. It will be interesting what gametime Sotutu gets for the AB XV and where (given Razor's fondness for position utility would they try him at 6 or is he the starting 8 etc) - that may point to how in the frame Sotutu is

                                        • I don't see Ryan clamouring for Akira to return the way he has for Frizell.
