Taukei'aho was also in good form last year but for whatever reason Foster preferred Taylor.

Samisoni's 2023 form was nowhere near his 2022 form. Hopefully next year he can find his 2022 form.

That's only because he was never given a proper chance to get going. He was good in Super Rugby then only started two Tests for the All Blacks - against Australia and Namibia.

Yeah I think they were always keen to get Codie Taylor starting which they did at the end of 2022. In fairness, Taylor has come back strong after his form slump with the odd game here and there where he's had the yips throwing wise, but largely he's been very good in the last couple of years.

Taukeiaho didn't do anything wrong and was our best in 2022 by a fair way. I still don't mind him coming off the bench in the last 30 though and the rotation worked well I thought last year.

Taylor's form this year has been really good. Would be very good for the ABs if ST comes back firing so CT can get subbed at about the 50 minute mark rather than after 70

As an Aumua fan it's bloody disappointing to see him still having the yips with his throwing, annoying because he has everything else required at test level. Unfortunately throwing is the bread and butter of a hooker so if he doesn't improve soon, he might be on the outer. If he can sort it though he will be a huge asset.

Definitely keen to see ST back in the frame though.

Taylor is playing great - for me comfortably the pick of the veterans this year - but he won't be around forever. The one-two punch of the grunt of Samisoni and the explosive power of Asafo has huge potential over the next 6 years or so.

Taylor will be the same age as Keven finished come this RWC, I think?

It's his up and down form that's most puzzling/worrying. I'm sure he'd sorted his throwing for a decent period...was it last year?

Yeah he was pretty solid for the Canes this year from memory. I think the issue for Aumua is getting more minutes under his belt, that's where we get to see the best of him. He was definitely better for the Canes as a starter VS coming off the bench behind Coles. But to get more mins he needs to improve his throwing, he can go long periods being really good and then periods where he's horrible. Definitely a work on for him.

What really is the point of these press conferences if they are not going to tell us anything interesting.
                      Just same dribble.
Surely they could give some insights without giving away the gameplan?

@Crazy-Horse like I said, a parent wouldn't be a loose tie for me, I'm pretty sure millions of others would share that view.

Samoa, Tonga, etc would drop well down the rugby rankings if that wasn't the case too.

Yep. Can't rewrite history, he went off the boil - really struggled against the Boks. Probably an indication of just how well Codie Taylor has played this year.

I'd say he is comfortably All Blacks player of the year... Tupou Vaa'i (?) a distant second?

Big three weeks coming up for Asafo Aumua I reckon. Off-contract at the end of next year, so this tour could be make or break. If he fails to make an impact, I think that could just about be it for him in a black jumper - may choose to cash-in, because I suspect the ABs would look to other options.

He has played every test this year, and other than in his two starts against the minnows he has been very disappointing IMO.

He has been a bit hot and cold, but if it were not for the lineout issues I don't think there would be that many negative comments on his play. Obviously that's the most important job for him though.
For me he is a guy who looks like he should be a great impact player, but in reality just isn't suited to that role - as of now at least. He's too nervous coming on and throwing critical lineouts late in a game. We'd be better off starting him and giving him the first half to go hard, then bring Taylor on for the 2nd half so we have his wide running and most importantly his experience throwing late in the game. That would require a change of mindset in the ABs though, which let's face it seems a bit unlikely as it is already at least 5 years too late vs when the Boks figured it out.

No doubt we are not using our bench as an asset right now. The Boks are streets ahead of us in that regard

Taukei'aho was also in good form last year but for whatever reason Foster preferred Taylor.

Samisoni's 2023 form was nowhere near his 2022 form. Hopefully next year he can find his 2022 form.

Yep. Can't rewrite history, he went off the boil - really struggled against the Boks. Probably an indication of just how well Codie Taylor has played this year.

I'd say he is comfortably All Blacks player of the year... Tupou Vaa'i (?) a distant second?

Struggled against the Boks? What, in the game at Twickenham where every player bar Cam Roigard was very average for the All Blacks?

Taukei'aho came on at halftime (when NZ were already down to 14 men) and still made the second most carries of any All Black and third most of any player, and made the second-most metres of any All Black forward. It wasn't a vintage showing but he was actually pretty good relative to his teammates.

I think it's you who's rewriting history at the moment...

Beauden Barrett should play his best position in the big matches: super-sub.

What’s strange is that he did quite well in coming on at 10 earlier in the year, and they abandoned it.

It also allows Dmac to move to 15 late which is also not a terrible idea.

@gt12 Yeah, I thought he was very effective in that role against England, and we do struggle in the second half ...
