@scribe Joe likes to pretend he's a hard man, but did he ever play on with one testicle torn open and hanging loose?

If you've heard him sing, you could be persuaded so.

The gap is enforced by World Rugby, to all pre match challenges, nothing to do with the ABs. And there is no reason the opposition can't fuck off and do their own thing, as the ABs have done a haka in the sheds, saying it is for them, then no one can complain if the oppo doesn't stand there and take it. Funny how no one in England ever complains about Fiji , Samoa, Tonga.

and did he hever hit someone on the field in a world cup knockout, knock them out and see them red carded when unconscious?

Why the hell did he need to apologise? That bothers me.

I must admit too being a little torn on the subject of the Haka. On the one hand I like the spectacle, love the tradition of the Haka going back all those years too. It was a real something to look forward to due to the rarity of seeing it, particularly first hand. I would hate to see it stopped. On the other hand it does seem to have become a little precious, various factions in NZ (and beyond) get all frothy when it is mentioned or it is suggested it has had its time, we now have rules about what can and can't be done in response. The thing itself has become highly choreographed and of course we have several versions.

Much of this "on the other hand" stuff has, for me, reduced the enjoyment of the spectacle and I yearn for earlier times when we had Ka Mate, it was watched with respect by the opposition, applauded by the crowd and we then got on with the game.

I really hate the rules that WR put around how teams respond to it. That 100% goes against the idea of the Haka, if you watch two PI teams play they do it at the same time as that's the idea, a challenge set down to each other. Making teams that don't do a Haka or something similar stand awkwardly BEHIND the halfway line is so dumb. I yearn for the days of teams coming up with their own challenge, e.g. starting quite far back and then walking up towards it to face it head on - that shit is epic. It has definitely become highly commercialised and choreographed now which takes away from the spectacle and the challenge it is meant to be.

Save that for the grumpy old men thread.

We new age they/thems demand apologies for even potential offence caused by Marlers white privilege. And with that apology I want reparations. Marler should use his standing and get on board with real clicktivism

Strangely enough that Shelford story hasn't convinced many mothers to persuade their young sons to take up rugby!

@MiketheSnow My guess is that someone very senior within the RFU or the England team set-up told him to apologise.

It would be slightly happier times if most people were allowed to say what they think and well-intention folk saved their anger for the actual evil and nasty shit in the world.

A few years ago I was in a long slow queue to get into Twix. All the fans around me were worried about missing the haka.

3 years ago I was in hospitality at Twickenham. It was unanimous at ours and other tables about looking forward to seeing the haka.

Everybody is welcome to their opinion. But facts are facts, the large majority want to see it.

I don’t care for it myself and think the critics have valid points. But they don’t speak for the masses.

And yet it’s drowned out by the slave song. It’s a bit annoying, but begrudgingly it is a good response for the sheer volume.
