Also the boundaries were way longer and you had to clear the fence that marked the boundary for the full six runs to be scored, hitting the fence on the full only counted for four. The bats he used would not have had the benefit of the minute computer design analysis todays slabs of willow are given to ensure they were optimal for six hitting. It is not uncommon to see mishits and thick top edges going for six these days.

One of our biggest problems of late is that Kane hasn't played much test cricket, and our standards and consistency across the whole team notably dropped away, leading to that loss against the bloody Bangles at home.

As I have said elsewhere though, they do seem to have had every bit of luck go their way. Whilst yeah you make your own luck and Bazball amplifies that, I do fear a readjustment is in sight. Hopefully for the England fans, their team's confidence is so high that they weather the knockbacks better than in the past.

Great performance though. I can easily see a 3-0 result when NZ tour Pakistan too, but unfortunately in favour of the home team.

Really a poor power play by NZ,with the pitch slowing up that was the time to hit boundaries with the field up.
Poor field settings when Pakistan were chasing to easy to find gaps no pressure applied.
A ridgid bowling plan which made it easy for Pakistain to plan their run chase.
And really a bad bowling effort lost length badly and not enough off pace deliveries no knuckle balls, virtually nothing out of the back of the hand.
Shit performance all round with no vision to change things up.

That was still a pretty decent chase. If Kane even went 40 from 30 and had 10 deliveries to one of our more aggressive batsmen, who knows…

That was actually a good partnership 91 runs at a 150 SR (even with Kane sandbagging)

We really needed Neesh or Mitchell to stay in which would have given either another 10-15 balls and a chance to hit a few big shots.
GP also choked up when the wickets started falling and only struck at 100 after KW was dismissed.

The thing with Neesh and Mitchell was when they came in and we were very much up against it so they were under pressure. I still think we would’ve come up short if they went their standard strike rates for an extra over.

Anyway hopefully a few lessons learned for both bat and ball.

Yeah but by the very nature of T20 as a format shouldn’t they be used to that ?

When Neesh came in there were 5 overs to go and we needed 61 to win. So not a lot of time and 12+ RR required. After 4 balls if you haven’t hit a couple of boundaries (on what was a slowing pitch), then you are in a bit of pain for the next over etc. If the required RR is under the 2 runs a ball then I just think the pressure is quite different.

Not at all. I’d rather he re established himself at the top of the test rankings again.

Steve Smith ( crumbs, what an ordinary T20 record ) and Joe Root don’t worry about this format of the game. Virat Kohli does but his test performances have suffered of late.

But different for Kohli given the IPL and its prominence, the amount of dosh he’s making and him being the Indian captain. They want him in the side regardless.

Definitely, and in terms of “all formats” Kohli could be regarded as the best of the four ( especially given Smiths surprisingly shit T20 record for a guy who averages bang on 60 at test level )…..the “fuck you bloody” crowd would certainly have this viewpoint.

But KW could be replaced by a bits and pieces hitter and the team wouldn’t suffer too much.

Not too much damage done, though.

Even if we lose to England, we'll be at a loss and a draw, while the loser between them and Oz will be at two losses.

As long as we can beat SL and Ireland we'll make it through.

T20 is such a crapshoot it doesn't much much matter if you're top qualifiers.

It was a bloody enjoyable win but it is also T20 and sometimes one thing can swing the whole shape of the game. If Allen’s onslaught hadn’t come off (and it won’t always) Captain Kane would have dragged down the run rate and we’d have been lucky to get 150-160.
If Warner hadn’t down a clown act to get out (pure comedy) the Oz batting shape could have also been much different.
Not saying it was only luck just that luck can play a big part sometimes.

Coulda shoulda woulda, who gives a fuck, lots of moments have gone against us over the years as well. Warner's a fucking tin arse and rides his luck all the time, nice to see it run out for once. We just wiped the fucking floor with them in a WC in front of 40k baying Australians. It doesn't get much better than that, just enjoy it man.

Not sure you can refer to a guy with a record as impressive as Warners as a “tin arse” no matter what his personality is like.

Yeah, Warner is ridiculously talented, which is why he often gets away with being a tin arse in T20s. Any batsmen that comes out and goes hell for leather from the get go needs a fair amount of luck to pull it off. To say we were lucky to get him out ignores all the chances and half chances he gets away with. I'm hoping Allen can be even half the time arse Warner is.
