NZC arguably has a recent history of doing even the right thing the wrong way. E.g. Hesson and McCullum were the right calls and probably set up the last eight years or so, yet the captaincy situation with Ross Taylor still managed to be handled abysmally by the powers-that be at the time...

I think part of the idea of appointing McCullum was to imitate that “reset” that NZ cricket seemed to have. It was certainly mentioned a fair bit anyway. Has that worked? Well the early indications would say yes, but it is very early days. Too soon to start dusting off the trophy cabinet that’s for sure.

England haven’t turned a massive corner, they still have a VERY creaky top order and two absolutely ancient spearheads…..BUT they’ve had some pretty good performances, their world class batsman has fired when ours didn’t and Bairstow has played out of his skin aka Johns son…..difference being he had enough support to get his team to victory.

I'll settle for improving the catch rate for simple catches. Hard catches are hard - but you can practice and improve the simple ones. And it relaly makes a difference in cricket; creating 10-11 chances vs creating 13-14 chances

Players tend to drop some really easy catches because they take them for granted, they need to focus just as much on a lolly catch as a difficult one... reckon if it's a lolly catch or a difficult one in slips or a diving catch in the outfield it's always so important to let the ball come to you using soft hands, it's when a player pushes their hands forward towards the ball there's a good chance they'll drop it.

It's good that batsmen have to face Jamieson's awkward bounce & he swings it, also has a good slower ball... but to add to his bowling armoury would like to see him bowl around the wicket when needed & use the width of the bowling crease too, Southee does that brilliantly.

I guess it's an interesting challenge for those guys in festival cricket. Pace off won't turn them into dibbly dobblies... probably like predictable slower balls, but still with plenty of pace to work with for hitting big.

after being subjected to the Fox coverage of the Ashes for 6 weeks with endless frothing over their fancy special camera that recorded bowlers actions i can expertly say those bowlers still have their wrist snap speed which surely they cant just turn off.

@nta totally agree mate. I spent a bit of time playing with and against Molly Strano and Sophie Molyneux about 4 years ago and they were skilful then, but the improvements have been astronomical. Great chicks too!

(apologies for the name drop but those girls were way cool and molly played the most technically perfect reverse sweep I've ever seen)
