Had a Quick look about and couldn't see a thread for it

Kicks off proper this weekend and to be honest I didn't think I'd be as pumped as I am. Last time I was this pumped was before the first game of the black caps Tri series with Ireland and bangledesh

Really interested to see how this racing pans out. Going to be so different to what we've seen before. These "boats" are quick and I can't see many of the races being that close at all but so hard to tell.

In full flight they look awesome, most are expecting a bit of carnage on the water.

I'm not really into it, band Waggoner for sure, so will wait for the right time to jump on!

Yep me too - true band waggoner - love watching it - especially with the foiling, but most of the time I don't know what is going on.

Was in San Fran during the louis vuitton and got to see Team NZ in action - amazing to see the boats up close.

Yeah Glenn Ashby? I get confused re skipper vs helmsmen (which is Burling). Is the skipper even on the boat?

The crew is smaller than before. Ashby is the sail trimmer and skipper IIRC. Burling is helmsman and Tuke is the foil trimmer. All the rest rides bikes. No free rides these days

Another big difference is that Oracle get to race with the challengers from the get go which means they will know exactly how they measure up.

I'm loving how technology has revitalised the sport; turning it into a sort of renewable F1 on water.

@JK and from what I gathered form Pete Montgomery on the radio this morning, they could influence which side of the draw for the semis teams go...so could ensure that ETNZ end up on the tougher semi while they have 2 weeks to fine tune.

Some farked up rules in this sport!

Yeah the whole - 'my cup, my rules' stuff sucks ass. Oracle have set things up so they have a big advantage by tangling with the challengers. Probably a lesson learnt from last time where only a few poor decisions from Team NZ let them catch up tech-wise.

These things are rocket ships on water - but as PJ noted if they are foiling and clip a bit of water it could get interesting really fast!!

I do love the technology even though I know sweet F all about how it actually works. Do like the fact Team NZ is still being inventive around how we power the boat. Wonder if they asked Hamish Bond if he was free?

I'm still filthy about how we lost last time......that bloody race that "timed out" which would've sealed it, then lost (was it?) 8 on the trot to cough up a 9-1 lead. Argh!

Apart from Team Japan, who are Oracle lite, the other 4 teams should just cruise around the course when racing Oracle so nothing is gained. It won't happen but would be a big "fuck you" to Coutts and Ellison.

Personally, I don't think the America's Cup has as much public interest anymore. I remember we setup TVs at work to watch the races from San Diego and Auckland. Now, I'll just watch the evening news, or wait until we're up 8-1 in the final. 😆

No racing today or tomorrow as postponement due to winds being too strong.

Racing to start Sunday morning NZ time

Anyone looking for a slightly different angle on the reporting as far as NZ goes would do well to read Newsroom https://www.newsroom.co.nz/@sailing

They seem to avoid the hype and hyperbole and have articles written by people more interested in the sailing than the sideshow.

                                      Bumping this.
Good day for NZ, speed is impressive. However, basic matchracing tactical error of not covering Aussie spitface let Oracle recover from 20 seconds down to get the inside lane at the last or second to last mark. He's a cunning bastard

Ben Ainslie let his ego get the better of him, red mist, twice. First, a split second decision not to give way to Barker meant he almost killed half the Japan crew. Next, he kept on sailing, and worsening the damage to his hull. Futile, destructive. World's best sailor? Not so far. That would be spitface.

F*ck, indeed! There wss potential for broken backs, for someone being sliced open like a can of tomato and spaghetti. All live on camera.

These boats need sensors, and when another boat is within 2m of them, it should be classed as collision for penalty. That would encourage slightly more circumspect sailing.

                                      Go, NZ!

The news reporting on TV made out Spittal was being disrespectful to Team NZ - then they played what he said and I found it quite normal I was not offended or surprised by his coments. He won he was happy so what. Pointed out we made an error and he capitalised.......that's sport
