Speaking of Al Pacino.... Watched this a week or so ago.

Watched three movies this week, doesn't usually happen as I don't really watch movies at home and usually just head to the cinema once a week Don Draper style during work hours. But a mate wanted to see a movie this week so I went to a second, and I always watch at least one horror movie at a mates house each October (they watch a horror movie a night).
Weapons: Enjoyed this film even though we don't really get to know the why which was a bit annoying. Kind of batshit crazy.
Springsteen - Deliver Me From Nowhere: Another is the recent music biopic style which are focused on a set period of an artist's career rather than a Bohemian Rhapsody entire career style one. Set before the making of the Nebraska album, but also includes the making of Born in the USA. This is getting mixed reviews, a bit of a kicking from some critics, but I thought it was really good. It introduced me to new stuff I didn't know about Springsteens career. Carmie from the Bear plays Bruce, and Jeremy Strong plays his manager. Its not strictly about music but I don't want to reveal what it's about because the Empire podcast completely spoiled the next movie for me so I don't want to be that guy.
Roofman: A pretty fun movie about a guy who robs McDonalds by getting in though the roof, he gets caught, goes to prison, breaks out and this movie is about what happens after that. It's fairly comedic but is also a drama. Stars Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst.

The Roses
Great work by the leads. Not so much from the supporting cast. But still an amusing black/ romantic comedy.

The Long walk
Stephen King adaption of young men in a post war America volunteer to walk until they are the last one to win a big bunch of money and a 'wish', the catch is, you cant stop or drop less the 3mph, if you drop out, you are shot.
I think its meant to deliver a message about friendship, human spirit etc...

Watched it this weekend too.. it’s good..
Buuut as a long time fan of the book it left me
Conflicted
So many changes from the original story and character changes/left out too
Biggest change from the original Stephen king novella is who survived at the end..One change that was made and it was 100% correct is the speed, for some reason it was 5mph which you can imagine would be near impossible to keep up

@Virgil so when you say who survived, watching it I thought
Pete was going to sacrifice himself for Garraty, was that how it happened in the book then as opposed to Garraty for Pete. At least Pete killed the Major for GarratyYeah 5MPH would be a considerable walking pace to maintain.
Was a decent enough watch, moved at a decent pace, but just lacked something for me.

Got to watch this too.. Was a more enjoyable horror movie than most I have seen of late maybe because it doesn't involve the standard friends group getting knocked off one by one. I'm just hoping it wasn't left deliberately open for sequels but definitely curious as to how and why it came to be..some of it kind of funny

Looks like someone wanted to make a Michael Mann movie. There really needs to be a moratorium on using Rolling Stones songs in trailers. ESPECIALLY that one.
I don't actually mind that use-case... looks promising.
Worst case - shit take on Heat.
Possible case - yeah, taking all those tropes, but reasonable end-product.

I don't watch horrors usually (only really watch the hyped ones that aren't just slasher or jump scares) so haven't been burnt out by the tropes.
I didn't even think about it being left open for sequels. But, considering most horrors have sequels we may have to worry about that now. Although it seemed to be of a higher budget than the Blumhouse style that churn out profitable sequels.

The book is better, alot of details and characters were left out...
For a start there are supposed to be 100 runners, not 50. Stebbins is very different in the book, hes this mysterious kid who is always at the back of the race, he never talks to anyone. Ray Garraty is almost obsessed with him. He looks completely unbeatable for almost the entire Long Walk.
Another change is Ray has a girlfriend, Jan who he constantly thinks about. Shes his motivation and seeing her (with his mum) is what keeps him going. Shes his first girlfriend, he walks for her. Pete had a GF too, its a bitter sad tale. They had a fight and she actually caused his scar, which is meant to be on his face. Not shoulder.
They removed a character called Scramm. Who is this big beefy dumb witted guy who is the fav to win, he's the one with a wife which all the other kids couldnt believe. He gets sick (Not Stebbins) and it wrecks his walk. He gives in and dies. Other guys we see are better fleshed out too.
The biggest change is the ending, the final 3 are correct but Pete dies first, he just sits down and is killed as Ray tries to pull him along. Then its just Stebbins and Ray before Stebbins eventually cracks and collapses. Ray then just walks off kinda having lost his mind. No one kills the Major
Also the major didnt execute Ray's dad, hes taken away, 'squaded' disappeared and hes never seen again. Think Nazi Germany in the 1940's..
Also its hinted throughout the story that the US lost the 2nd World War, the Nazis won....Fun fact too, this was Stephen Kings first ever story he wrote. Its only a novella, longer then a short story but nowhere near full novel length. It was written during the Vietnam war when he was at College.
