Yeah it might be boring as fuck, but it can be effective. Neil is not wrong, Wales didn't create much all tournament. But neither did Italy, Ireland, France outside of one half, Scotland managed a few flashes, and England scored heaps & played some of the best rugby - shame for them that rugby is an eighty minute game & they have only one plan (also a common thread in this year's tournament).

The other story it's a total click bait headline, as Schmidt says it have an advantage, and it does. Only the all blacks don't give a fuck about that advantage and publish their team a day before anyone else. Not a bloody 25 point advantage tho!

Doubt if I've ever read a more stupid, idiotic moan about losing a game in decades. It even beats Stephen Jones quoting out-of-date rugby laws to prove England were cheated by the ref when losing to us in November

Not sure Ireland created much against us last November. They played the way Wales did - suffocating defence and forcing errors. Fair play to them - but you rely on a ref, and it's hard to chase a game that way.

Yeah, and for much of that game, we played the same was as Ireland did on Saturday.

No one's saying it's not winning rugby, just that it is pretty unexciting rugby, Victor. The contest can be tense and exciting even if the rugby isn't. Two different things. I'd prefer tense and exciting contests of quality rugby, but it doesn't happen often!

I don't agree with his conclusion but the stats he quotes tell a story

Genuine question, need someone 20 years younger than me and with a better memory to answer, I can't recall. I don't really recall us bombing scoring opportunities all afternoon. I think we just got smashed (backwards).

Yep, out-passioned to use an old John Hartism. We were never in that game, and played terribly. 9 points is a horrible outcome.

We're going to see this in the RWC unless refs get more aggressive with the offside line. Modern defences are hard to unlock; I just hope we've got some tactics up our sleeve that are hard to negate in a few weeks.

Yeah, I was trying to take more notice of the offside line in the final two 6N games and everyone was at it. It was policed very poorly in general. I’m not really in favour of interference by the TMO but maybe this is an area that it might be useful?

@Rapido no. we did what we frequently do when we get beaten. this usually happens when we play a team that wants the ball, plays simple and direct on attack, and has a rush defence: we allow them to retain the ball and build momentum, then when we finally do get the ball we try shitty short kicks that give the ball straight back.

everyone says 'the opposition is up quick, put it in behind them'. bullshit. the grubber is not something you should do just because the opposition rushes, it is something you do because there is a gap. the potatoes have covered the damn gap, so don't kick the ball away dickheads.

i am still cross about this.

It's a reality though, and expect rush defence and borderline offside to continue. NZ are currently pretty hopeless at dealing with it (from an attacking POV). It's a leveller, makes the world cup even more wide open (NZ probably on the decline anyway).

Test rugby these days is reminding me more of old school tests. Hard to score tries.

@reprobate Except kicking the ball behind the rush can work very very well, see England vs Ireland. There is nothing wrong with that kicking strategy, you just have to be good at it. Our nines are not

@Rapido "hard to score tries" Scotland scored the most tries vs England at Twickers EVER on the weekend. 6 tries, was it? Only one team has done 5, I think I read, and only on 4 times have they given up 4!

Either Wales' opponents are really fucking stupid or the majority of the penalties we kicked were sacrificed by the opposition in the knowledge that if they didn't kill the play then we were about to open them up.

Yeah it's the ABs way too, give the three we'll score 5/7. Wales will just not let anyone else score at all!

The Blues took the extraordinary step of de-listing Anscombe, which came after his rookie season in which he won them a game in South Africa against good opposition (he had an absolute blinder that day).

I've increasingly come around to the theory that Anscombe payed the price for the messages that were sent to Pat Lam by other parties. Really shitty to do to a young player, if true.

@Duluth The question for me is whether it was done for reasons unrelated to Anscombe's ability etc.

He took the ball to the line frequently, and then either ran or distributed. Generally, though, he sat in the pocket, which made defenders lick their lips at an undersized 10.

But yeah, didn't Ma'a (round 1) refuse to play outside him, and then pull the pin and shoot off the the Highlanders?

Gareth Anscombe rightly got let go from the Blues after his dad's disgusting racist comments which were backed up by Gareth Anscombe himself.
