Talking of NZ cricketers getting beaten...did anyone watch the rugby v cricket T20 at Hagley oval? Rugby won easily (and took some great catches.)

Cricket team included Fleming, Astle, Mills, Harris, Marshall, Franklin, Liz Perry and others.
Rugby team included McCaw, Read, Dagg, J Barrett, B Barrett, B Mac (who was actually quite shit and dropped a sitter) Kendra Cocksedge and others.

That group of guys, Hart, Wells etc did the commentary. Maybe they are better at other games, but they were not in the slightest bit funny. Or interesting. Sumo on the sidelines was good though.

I think they are a bit better when they are on a medium that lets them go a little bit blue. Even though they weren't able to discuss the usual topics like Pakistani backhanders or "Racism, pros and cons?" their cricket knowledge is pretty strong. Their labeling of McCaw's action as a left-arm Martin Snedden and Baudey as Jeremy Coney was spot on IMO.

I found the commentary amusing, but then again I enjoy Bhuja TV.

I've bagged out the Indians in the past. Like, a lot. Their team was massively over-rated by their dominance at home, but then they sucked on the road.

Those days are well gone. That attack they have assembled is fucking classy. This summer, in Aus and in NZ, they have won games by regularly taking wickets throughout innings. They are able to build pressure with consistent plans; they have seamers with genuine pace; and of course the ubiquitous classy Indian spinners.

They are then backed up by a strong, if not dominant, batting lineup (led by a genuine star in Kohli) who are benefiting from the attack not putting them under too much pressure. Fuckers have learned to field as well.

It's been a nice little romp through Australasia for them this summer, and a great warm up for later in the year.

Watching yesterday it was amazing to watch two of our best ever batsmen get frustrated as the Indian's just gave them nothing.

Amazing to see an Indian team come here, take 3 times as many wickets as us, and then run down our meagre totals without anyone racking up a big score.

And Jaspreet Bumrah isn't even playing yet. Career Econ rate of 3 something in ODIs in the days of 330 par scores.

Felt good to read that as an Indian fan - too many years of having a talented team that underwhelmed away from home often.

No direct discussion as yet on todays' game just illustrates how little interest there is left in these two dead rubbers.

Think a lot of people fell off the bandwagon this series, just watching from a safe distance to see if we can nab a win before jumping back on.

I'm still keen on the rest of theses matches. Just disappointed it is a D/N as it would be great to have on at work

Also Kohli going home takes away a fair amount of interest. Beating them with no Kohli and Bumrah puts a fairly large asterisk next to the W.

Maybe but getting smoked by them without those two also puts a lot of ??????? on the team too.

Still watching intently from this corner of the bandwagon, just have a nagging feeling that this is a series where we're simply outclassed....

Hoping for a win where India have no Kohli and they maybe relax after wrapping up the series, and tighten up slightly at having no Kohli to bat with them.

Oh yeah I will always be on the bandwagon no matter how damaged it gets. And unlike @Hooroo I am happy it is a D/N as I will be able to tune in after work, as some of us actually have to work when we're at "work".

But I can see how interest has waned a bit given the hidings we've taken. We seem strongest in the test arena at the moment, which is crazy given how few we play.

I know, there's been so many articles saying this is our best ever team and notwithstanding Paddles and co efforts in the 80s I truly believe it is in all forms.

Unfortunately India are crazy Good, probably better.

@Donsteppa I'm still watching intently from over here, as well.

I think our batsmen have performed poorly in this series- rather than that we've just been completely outclassed.

Our bowlers not so much - they've been about par, but maybe Tim Southee should have been higher up the pecking order than I (and Stead) thought.

I go back to this series from 15 months ago - pretty much the same teams and we were very competitive.

                          What's changed?

India has got much better or our batsmen have been much worse?

In other news - I reckon they'll play Munro again.

Bracewell and Sodhi obviously out and Neesham and Astle/Southee in. Maybe all three with Ferguson also missing out.

The craziest thing with this team and it's lack of runs? We have in our top four, three of NZ's 5 greatest ODI batsmen of all time. Taylor is a clear #1, in my book.

That's pretty sad reading. It's not like it's Vincent, the Marshall, Styris or any other battlers......They are as you say our very best ever.

I care, but sheesh these fullas are bloody good. Frustrating that we've gone so long with only Taylor firing to any level. It's still hard to tell how big the gap is between us, are we playing average as well as them putting us under pressure? or are we just genuinely not in their league?

In a weird kind of way if someone like Munro fires it's kind of too little too late imo (at least for him). It'd be better to see Guppy and Kane hit some form as we know they are locked in. In saying that it seems Munro still has plenty of leeway - but how long will that last?

Bowlers can kind of push back till we get a defensible total. Boult is going pretty well, but has had fuck all support.

From what I have seen of Kane he is very much in form - but India have been very good at frustrating him with a nagging line and length and he has uncharacteristically thrown his wicket away 3 times. It doesn't help when the openers are out so early as he knows they need 300 to compete and with Taylor being a slow starter, one of them has to force it a little.

Now if the Indians would just pitch a couple short outside off, a couple on the pads and throw in some half volleys then things would be very different. They could learn a lot from watching NZ bowling ....

@Paekakboyz I think the die is probably cast with Munro now. Can't see them bringing in Will Young after this - so I reckon he's going to the CWC as a first choice opener.

I reckon Chris Woakes has written the blueprint for getting rid of Munro - full and wide and nick him out. Indians will have watched that!

                                          Nichols to open. Munro dropped.
