Took a look at the world record progressions to see which year Sam Ruthe's personal bests would have set a world record.

      800m - 1938
      1,500m - 1956
      Mile - 1953
      3,000m - 1954

Interestingly his younger sister Daisy (14) has run just over 4:30 for 1,500m and that would have set the women's world record in 1956.

Sam Ruthe smashed the NZ U20 and U19 records, clocking 13:40.48 in his 5000m debut at Night of 5s. 13:35.84 Jakob Ingebrigtsen is the record for his age.

In Sydney, Boh Ritchie took down both the NZ U20 and U19 800m records at the Albie Thomas Mile. A record set in 1974 by Lorraine Moller.

Some of his numbers are mental, moreso because of his age, seems like he's well grounded too.

With Sam Ruthe, it is amazing how good his times are in the range from 800 - 5,000m. It suggests that the longer distances may be where his future lies given he obviously has speed - but the top 800 - 1,500m speeds might be too hard for him to achieve. Entirely possible that his sister will be as good as he is in a couple of years ....

Sam Tanner gets the win over Sam Ruthe in the Cooks Classic Mile but Sam Ruthe breaks the world record for a 16 year old beating the time of Cam Myers by well over a second.
                            Tanner 3:53:36
                            Ruthe 3:53:83

Even he surprised after that win and time as he felt a bit leggy after the flight to the States. Seems like all he needed was to have that pace in a race and he was not only comfortable but had enough in hand to kick at the end. Would mean a 3.32 ish 1,500m is possible
