For those that missed Ruthe's latest mile - he got stuck behind a couple guys earlier in the race and had to run a wide line to try get past - one guy in particular even stuck his arm out at one point to prevent him passing. Spent the first 800ish metres wasting energy on that, then by the time he got into 3rd for the second half of the race Hocker (current Olympics 1500m champ) was already setting up to kick for the final 3-400m.
Hocker ended up running 3:45.94, an American record for the indoor mile and 0.8 seconds off the overall world record.
Ruthe faded to 7th in 3:52.46. General consensus is that he would've had little chance of sticking to Hocker anyway, but was denied the opportunity by tactical errors early doors. Excellent learning experience.

It shows where expectation is for Ruthe - it is still 3 seconds faster than the record he only just set for the mile for a 16 year old.

Good for her, great run at her age and all that - but it's also a bit sad for NZ running that a 9:47 is good enough to win the U20's!

Gout Gout runs 10.00.

Ruthe is out of action for a little bit with a stress fracture. He does intend to run at the Commonwealth games as well as the under 20s worlds which I am very happy about. The Commonwealth games is very much a second tier event these days (where a lot of the big stars won't attend) but for a young kid I think it will give him experience in a big games championship event. Also gives Scottish crowds a chance to see him in person.

I saw him out running on one of the Tauranga bike tracks on Saturday morning with a group of lads and then saw the story about the stress fracture the next day.

You think it could be just a planned resting period? -

You think it could be just a planned resting period?Hopefully. Just has to cut back his distance and let it recover. Hopefully he can make the Commonwealth games, Myers will be favourite for that I expect.

Yes, not sure if the two Scots Wightman and Kerr will compete, as of right now they are committed, the fact it's in Glasgow will probably sway them towards doing so. It would be great to see him compete against a strong field and a great experience for him long term
