So the primary requirement is a neat hair cut.

I hope you don't object too much if I say that you're awfully odd sometimes @Winger.

No one really knows who the top 3 or 4 candidates are wanting as their preferred assistant coaches, so it becomes speculation on our part as to the strength of their coaching group. The only thing we do know for certain is that Tony Brown was in demand with 2, if not 3, of those coaches and his loyalty to Joseph is a big plus in his favour, and a blow to Foster and Robertson. McLeod also has some relationship with both Joseph and Foster.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more leaked via the media about potential assistants but maybe that will be known when a shortlist is confirmed.

        @Crucial

JJ and Brown is so clearly the best option. It will reflect extremely poorly on the NZRU if they aren't appointed

Joseph will an outstanding front person for the ABs. He looks like an adult.

Robertson looks like too much of a lad still. Fine for Canterbury and the Crusaders. But not for the ABs. And he isn't proven outside the Canterbury / Crusaders environment. He needs to leave and get some overseas experience. And hopefully mature a bit

Another factor. Can Robinson relate to all players from throughout NZ. Rather than reverting back to a Crusaders team. Has he this maturity (I doubt it)

I don't care about how they look but do agree that if a JJ/Brown combo are in the mix I would take a bit of persuading to get away from them.
I don't even know if Rennie has applied but Rennie/O'Halloran is also an exciting mix (although without the visible high level achievements)

        It is important

Looks are totally irrelevant. But here you are. Joseph wears tracksuits, too, and Robertson looks good in a suit. Big deal.

@Bovidae Yeah, I can't wait to find out who the candidates are, and particularly, the combos. People also seem to forget that Joseph and Brown are negotiating with Japan and may get an offer they can't refuse. So they might not be available or pull out. We simply don't know. Quite Happy to leave Razor to rebuild the Crusaders who ever gets the job has a hard job ahead.
It will make or break the coaching unit, its never easy after a WC failure( and not winning is always a failure in The ABs eyes)
The way we play the game over the next 4 years is going to be mighty interesting because whoever comes in better not wast 4 years with the wrong gameplays and selections.

Would be interesting if the JJ/Brown model was to apply the speed approach they used with Japan along with a stronger set piece and defence (and higher player quality). It is very close to the Hansen/Foster design though. We just didn't execute it well at times.

It's all very well to be able to play fast. But sometimes you have to play direct and a little bit ugly, so the new coach needs to be able to tighten up our play as well

Highlanders style when they were under these two was good. Direct and hard when needed but rapid when on a roll.

Yeah, because becoming the ABs head coach is similar to being named New Zealand's Next Top Model.

They kicked more than other teams too. Contestable kicks and backing the defence was a big part of that season.
Very different from the possession game Japan played.

If JJ/Brown are offered the AB's coaching role I don't think any amount of money would keep them in Japan. They have both stated their desire to coach the AB's and they will be well remunerated anyway. Its actually also a great time to take over as we came 3rd in the WC, lost the RC and have stuttered in recent years. Whoever is the new coach has 4 years to build a team that will hopefully go all the way.

If JJ is as tough as they say he is, and demands his players are fully committed to the cause, they you'd have to think that Akira Ioane's chances of forcing his way into the vacant no.8 jersey are low. Akira's poor workrate and relaxed attitude to training and personal fitness don't seem compatible with a Joseph coached All Black team.

Unsure how big a factor this will play. I hope Robinson can rise above this. The players in teams outside of Canterbury must feel they have a fair chance of making the ABs. This si unlikely to happen with Robertson

Unsure how big a factor this will play. I hope Robinson can rise above this. The players in teams outside of Canterbury must feel they have a fair chance of making the ABs. This si unlikely to happen with Robertson

                                  1. Mark Robinson – NZ Rugby CEO – ex Crusader player and team mate. Razor saved his bacon plenty of times on the field, like every loosie does for his little mates in the backline…
                                  2. Mike Anthony – ex Crusader and All Black S&C and long term friend of Mr Razor (btw he is part of the ex Crusader mafia quietly pulling the strings of NZ rugby now – with good reason of course.. )
                                  3. Graham Henry – well known admirer of Razor and his Authentic methods. I believe Ted Is one of Razors coaching mentors..
                                  4. Brent Impey – Incoming Chair of NZ Rugby- will go along with what the rugby experts on the panel say..
                                  5. Wai Taumaunu – ex NZ netballer and successful coach – connected with Razor through the strong NZ rugby and netball network. I won’t name names here… I don’t like horses heads in my bed…

Fuck. So we get the scruffy combover.

                                  Doomed.

                                  We're doomed ...

Surely personal bias would have no impact on the decision....

Where we go from here tactically will be an interesting watch for me.
We need a strong defensive game and use our kicking ability but I agree we need to play at pace to maximise our skill sets.
                                      Fascinating 2020 coming up.

I just hope the coaches are aware that we need to score more points than the opposition...oh and tackle real good. If we go zippy zippy fasty runny with the ball then even better.

                                          Razor has no chance.

Yeah, because becoming the ABs head coach is similar to being named New Zealand's Next Top Model.
