Quite Happy to leave Razor to rebuild the Crusaders who ever gets the job has a hard job ahead.
It will make or break the coaching unit, its never easy after a WC failure( and not winning is always a failure in The ABs eyes)
The way we play the game over the next 4 years is going to be mighty interesting because whoever comes in better not wast 4 years with the wrong gameplays and selections.

Would be interesting if the JJ/Brown model was to apply the speed approach they used with Japan along with a stronger set piece and defence (and higher player quality). It is very close to the Hansen/Foster design though. We just didn't execute it well at times.

It's all very well to be able to play fast. But sometimes you have to play direct and a little bit ugly, so the new coach needs to be able to tighten up our play as well

Highlanders style when they were under these two was good. Direct and hard when needed but rapid when on a roll.
Don't forget JJ is renowned as a hard task master and demands toughness

They kicked more than other teams too. Contestable kicks and backing the defence was a big part of that season.
Very different from the possession game Japan played.

@Bovidae Yeah, I can't wait to find out who the candidates are, and particularly, the combos. People also seem to forget that Joseph and Brown are negotiating with Japan and may get an offer they can't refuse. So they might not be available or pull out. We simply don't know. Is it even a certainty that Robertson doesn't want to be an assistant, or was that just speculation or misinterpretation by a journo? I'd be most happy with a trio of Joseph, Brown and Robertson. I'd would be most unhappy if either Hammett or Philpott are somehow involved in whatever capacity. I also hope Plumtree isn't one of the candidates, or Boyd, or Lam. I don't think Foster would be a disaster, but a lot will depend on who he picks as his assistants.

@Stargazer unless Robertson is head and JJ and Brown his assistants, that trio wont happen.

If JJ/Brown are offered the AB's coaching role I don't think any amount of money would keep them in Japan. They have both stated their desire to coach the AB's and they will be well remunerated anyway. Its actually also a great time to take over as we came 3rd in the WC, lost the RC and have stuttered in recent years. Whoever is the new coach has 4 years to build a team that will hopefully go all the way.

If JJ is as tough as they say he is, and demands his players are fully committed to the cause, they you'd have to think that Akira Ioane's chances of forcing his way into the vacant no.8 jersey are low. Akira's poor workrate and relaxed attitude to training and personal fitness don't seem compatible with a Joseph coached All Black team.

Unsure how big a factor this will play. I hope Robinson can rise above this. The players in teams outside of Canterbury must feel they have a fair chance of making the ABs. This si unlikely to happen with Robertson

Where we go from here tactically will be an interesting watch for me.
We need a strong defensive game and use our kicking ability but I agree we need to play at pace to maximise our skill sets.
                    Fascinating 2020 coming up.

I just hope the coaches are aware that we need to score more points than the opposition...oh and tackle real good. If we go zippy zippy fasty runny with the ball then even better.

I think the whole process is for show. Given the way that the 'insiders' have been talking, Hansen, Wayne Smith, Beauden Barrett etc, I suspect that the NZR board decided years ago that Ian Foster was going to replace Steve Hansen. Had we won the RWC this would have been a much easier process for them, but given our spectacular loss to England NZR now needs to appear to be paying lip service to a proper recruitment process. The fact that they hilariously approached 26 candidates to apply is a testament to this. But disappointment in NZ over the semi final loss in Yokohama will soon die down, and just before Christmas, during the height of cricket season, NZR will quietly announce that Ian Foster will take over for the next four years. Probably 8 years, the way recent trends have gone. And he will be the least deserving or credentialed AB head coach in living memory.

Wouldn't even be the least credentialed AB head coach from those early 90s Waikato teams. I'm sure Foster would have a better backroom though.

Not from me it damn well won't. I am still trying to come to terms with 1905. And as it is now cricket season there is this that still irritates me

                                    This. A thousand times.

If we're talking cricket I still rate the Underarm as one of the the worst. I can can remember our whole family crowded round the telly shouting at it.

So it’s down to haircut then?
                                      Razor has no chance.

And explains why Squire wasn't able to nail down the no.6 jersey, I guess...
