Quite Happy to leave Razor to rebuild the Crusaders who ever gets the job has a hard job ahead.
It will make or break the coaching unit, its never easy after a WC failure( and not winning is always a failure in The ABs eyes)
The way we play the game over the next 4 years is going to be mighty interesting because whoever comes in better not wast 4 years with the wrong gameplays and selections.

Would be interesting if the JJ/Brown model was to apply the speed approach they used with Japan along with a stronger set piece and defence (and higher player quality). It is very close to the Hansen/Foster design though. We just didn't execute it well at times.

Where we go from here tactically will be an interesting watch for me.
We need a strong defensive game and use our kicking ability but I agree we need to play at pace to maximise our skill sets.
    Fascinating 2020 coming up.

I just hope the coaches are aware that we need to score more points than the opposition...oh and tackle real good. If we go zippy zippy fasty runny with the ball then even better.

Yeah, because becoming the ABs head coach is similar to being named New Zealand's Next Top Model.

I think the whole process is for show. Given the way that the 'insiders' have been talking, Hansen, Wayne Smith, Beauden Barrett etc, I suspect that the NZR board decided years ago that Ian Foster was going to replace Steve Hansen. Had we won the RWC this would have been a much easier process for them, but given our spectacular loss to England NZR now needs to appear to be paying lip service to a proper recruitment process. The fact that they hilariously approached 26 candidates to apply is a testament to this. But disappointment in NZ over the semi final loss in Yokohama will soon die down, and just before Christmas, during the height of cricket season, NZR will quietly announce that Ian Foster will take over for the next four years. Probably 8 years, the way recent trends have gone. And he will be the least deserving or credentialed AB head coach in living memory.

Wouldn't even be the least credentialed AB head coach from those early 90s Waikato teams. I'm sure Foster would have a better backroom though.

                    This. A thousand times.

If we're talking cricket I still rate the Underarm as one of the the worst. I can can remember our whole family crowded round the telly shouting at it.

This is close to the biggest load of bollocks posted on the sports boards in ages. Totally smacks of getting excuses in early if your golden boy doesn't get appointed.

Insiders? Only BB would be considered an 'insider' in the loosest terms as the fish heads won't be telling the players ahead of times. He has given Foster an endorsement (as did Hansen). Nothing unusual in that. I get endorsements for stuff on LinkedIn but it doesn't mean I'm a shoe in for a job.

Decided years ago? Not even the NZR are that stupid. There is no doubt that Foster will know that good performances in house give him an advantage over outside candidates simply because he works closer with the management team and they may have more of an insight into his qualities. That can work the other way as well though. Also you can't ignore the fact that the CEO has changed and there are panelists from outside of the inner workings.

How are the NZR paying 'lip service'? Just because they aren't tweeting out notes after seeing every candidate or doing the process through the press that doesn't mean they are hiding a sham. They are doing what any employer would do and that is interview privately.

Hilariously approached 26 candidates? Surely approaching only a pre-assessed short list would be more of a show? This is really no different to common practice of inviting current employees to apply for a promoted role (part of the reason for doing this is that it gives those people a bigger insight into where they need to develop) and ensures that coaches working overseas are sent the message that they aren't forgotten or pre-judged. I would be pretty certain that only a handful actually applied and that was always expected. The process and courtesy is good practice.

There is hardly going to be a 'quiet announcement'. This thread alone proves the level of public interest and the sports media will be jumping all over the decision and picking it apart.

As for 'least deserving or credentialed AB head coach in living memory'. What complete bullshit. 8 years hands on as part of an AB coaching setup that produced a mid 80s% win rate (well above historical average) provides credentials. It is well known that Foster runs the trainings and implements the coaching plans. As for 'deserving', well that is entirely subjective. Please tell what Razor or Rennie or Joseph have done to 'deserve' appointment? They have built records that put themselves forward strongly as candidates but no one gets to 'deserve' the job.

What the decision will hopefully be based on is whether a candidate has the goods for the next cycle. Foster appears to outsiders to be culpable for his part in the RWC, however we don't know the inner workings. Maybe he was a dissenting voice to the SB selection? Maybe he wanted to amp them up more for the game but Hansen wanted to take a measured approach? Maybe he wanted to hold back a little against Ireland knowing that it could backfire?
I'm not saying that is all true and I can't see that he isn't part of the decision to move away from experience. The coaching and selecting groups made errors and he will have to explain those. Was it that they were collectively running out of ideas? If so then continuity goes out the window as does Foster.

                                      Your logic is screwed.
So Hansen is party to inside knowledge that a group of people that are no longer working at NZR will be able to dictate to their replacements that they will select Foster when Hansen retires.
Yes, Hansen WAS an insider. He isn't any longer and his mate Tew has also gone.

I'm not saying that the board is going to make the correct decision and not make mistakes but none of your reasoning as to why Foster will get the job stands up to scrutiny.
If he gets the job it will be because he has convinced them (rightly or wrongly) that he can pick up and continue to progress the team in the required direction. He has 'inside running' as an incumbent, but that it. It is more likely to count against him as for him.
