is the talent disparity between the 5 franchises has narrowed in recent times

lol what? The Crusaders have how many current ABs? Go read their thread! they don't know how to get them in the 23, let alone the fucking 15

    meanwhile the Chiefs have.....

Some of the teams are closer in talent now, because the talent is less, nearly everywhere. Throw in a couple of sabbaticals, and a season ending injury...

Lol... Chiefs & Blues have superior talent across multiple positions to Crusaders, including far more talented, individual 'game-breaker' type All Blacks.

In contrast, Crusaders have a lot of solid journeyman-like players (which includes many of their All Blacks..) and are made to look far better than they actually are - thanks to Razor's ability to mold a champion side.

(to the eyes, an extremely cohesive unit, resulting in the team appearing "greater than the sum of the parts")

The Blues had the most raw talent of any NZ franchise in 2021 but Razor's superior team cohesion & coaching cancelled-out the impact of the Blues erroneously talented backline, loose-forwards and propping stocks, on paper.

(Razor's coaching resulting in the team appearing "greater than the sum of the parts"...)

Leon MacDonald took the most talent-laden stacked Blues side to a lowly 3rd in SR Aotearoa this year.

Why are the Cantabs circling the wagons for Razor?

I don’t think there’s anyone here who’d rather have Fozzie than Razor.

i hope you were insinuating i was a saders fan....i want the AB's to poach him so the saders dont have him any more!

Yeah on second thoughts Fuck it Ab's can keep Foster, we will keep Razor and keep winning.
Then I can keep bagging the fuck out of Foster for his next 9 years.

That sounds like the Canterbury way.

Will you be supporting the Wallabies when Razor takes over coaching them too? Some of us haven't forgotten that.

You mean like Rennie now coaching them ?

Go find my post when he was appointed.

        I can't be fucked.

Just thought a certain few posters above me ought to know this... at the very beginning of his coaching career, Razor inherited a Sumner outfit that was rock bottom of the Chch 2nd Division. Within one year he had transformed them from cellar-dwellers to Division champs. And the following seasons he managed to coach them all the way to the top of Div 1.

He's always taken underperforming teams & exceeded expectations, Sumner was the weakest club in Christchurch when he took over.

Genuine question, was it the same players or did he attract better players to Sumner?

He’s mostly right but a lot of this is utter click bait bollocks

There are plenty of worrying aspects to this whole charade. Barrett came back from Japan saying he wanted his number 10 jersey back. Instead of brusquely telling him that the coach picked the team, Foster lauded his ambition. The likes of Sir Graham Henry would never have so badly undermined their own authority..

Beaudy said he enjoyed and wanted to play ten, not get HIS jersey back. Players stating a preference is good, and correctly a sign of ambition - like Reiko wanting to play centre. Doesn’t mean the coach will choose that.

It appears that John Plumtree is wielding more and more influence with the insertion of the Hurricanes axis of TJ Perenara, Ardie Savea and Beauden Barrett into the 8, 9 and 10 shirts.

More clickbait bullshit, he has no idea

That would be by accident. Reason's knowledge of and ability to write anything insightful about rugby is encapsulated in the infinite monkey theorem.

@chris I disagree. I think he is way off as usual on almost every point in just trying to stir up AB fans.

Reason is a chip of the old block and takes after his father John, who was the Walrus of his generation before clickbait was even a thing.

Um I a like Rennie, but I don't know how to break this to you, he's actually coached the Wallabies as long as Foster has done the ABs, and it's not his first year, but second!
I not knocking him by any means (actually always been a Rennie fan) or saying he better or worse than Foster (never would) .

@dan54 yes that was pointed out to me. Covid has blurred a lot as far as timeline. But you do admit Foster has been involved with the ABs for 9 years (per @Chris) and I don’t think he was a passenger.

There is one thing I can guarantee you, I (and I guessing anyone on this bored) would have a lot less knowledge of who should be coaching any teams than the people who appoint the coaches.

So we shouldn’t have opinions as they we don’t know what the f we are talking about. You agree with the NZRFU then because most on this board don’t. Most here would have preferred Rennie, Joseph and Brown or Razor. Certainly not status quo.

From an Aussie perspective Rennie has won nothing of importance in 2 years, had a 16% winning record last year, and again this year hasn't won Bledisloe or RC, but not blaming him in anyway.

Agree but I think they will be happy beating the Boks twice where we struggle both times. Bottom line he has a tough job ahead of him with less depth than we have (although some might debate this). I am willing to give him more time. Wonder what @NTA thinks.

Mate we all should have opinions, but we have to realise that generally we have uninformed opinions. Just to make it clear, I was real keen on Joseph/Brown coaching the ABs, they weren't available , neither was Rennie. And I would of been more than happy with Razor if had been appointed, but I wasn't doing the appointments.
mate I have been on rugby boards form schoolboy to senior clubs, to provincial rugby, and have been part of appointing plenty of coaches (managers etc as well as doing these jobs). One thing I can guarantee almost every coach appointed there were people who knew better and knew better coaches etc (including when I was the said coach etc), but funnily enough generally they were people who didn't know the reasons why or how appointments were actually made. Hell I have voted against one of my best mates when he stood as coach for a rep team because I believed another coach had a better plan for team.
In saying that we all entitled to opinions, but they just that opinions, on the internet, with absolutely no outcome whether we right or wrong.
