Napier is also going for an extra outside back instead of a loose forward. That makes no sense, given the attrition rate for the loosies.

Fozzie will no doubt think differently because he has form for not taking selection risks.

And then not taking selection risks becomes a risk in itself when you stay with the same old same old

It would be sensible to have some like-for-like replacements in key positions like centre. Losing Rieko would completely change the potency of the midfield and backline for the worse. Sullivan will get his chance for the Mฤori if he doesn't make the ABs. A strong performance in those games will help his cause.

So how many AB careers end today? Bridge would have to be the obvious candidate, but there are a few others that are 50/50 for selection, and others who could have the Mฤori lifeline (overlooked but not completely).

    Bridge/TJP? https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/the-likely-all-blacks-ian-fosters-two-difficult-phone-calls/XMZEWSXE3FB5WNR2VATNRQ56YU/

    Paywalled

    Here's Liam Napiers squad prediction:

    Possible All Blacks squad:
Outside backs: Will Jordan, Jordie Barrett, Caleb Clarke, Sevu Reece, Leicester Fainga'anuku
Midfield: Rieko Ioane, Quinn Tupaea, David Havili, Jack Goodhue, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
First fives: Beauden Barrett, Richie Mo'unga, Stephen Perofeta
Halfbacks: Aaron Smith, Finlay Christie, Folau Fakatava
Loose forwards: Sam Cane, Ardie Savea, Dalton Papalii, Akira Ioane, Luke Jacobson, Shannon Frizell
Locks: Brodie Retallick, Tupou Vaa'i, Sam Whitelock, Scott Barrett, Josh Lord
Hookers: Codie Taylor, Samisoni Taukeiaho, Dane Coles
Props: Ofa Tuungafasi, Nepo Laulala, Ethan de Groot, George Bower, Tyrel Lomax/Angus Ta'avao, Aidan Ross

    Frizell ahead of Sotutu?
Wow! That paywall really has some "special" contact behind it.

The Stuff blog is saying that TJP isn't in the AB squad. Not a big surprise, if correct.

    Also:

Speaking of new caps... more breaking news for you...

Stuff understands Highlanders halfback Folau Fakatava will be named, while Blues duo Stephen Perofeta and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will be there as well.

Speaking of props, has there been any word around the possibility of a Franks recall? I'd love to see it
