No wonder biomag worked so well on irony man.

Can't wait to tell all the fellas down the club that I'm heavier and faster than I'm a freak athlete. It's science!

Sounds to me like the All Blacks need to take a leaf out of the 1905 invincibles. Pretty sure none of those speed freaks would have weighed over 90kg, including the forwards !

fuck, imagine how slow he must have got

We're in position where we've got too many players in their early 30's, especially in the forwards... it's up to to coach to know when to drop some of the older players, also to know when to feed one or two new players into the team, otherwise we will have a lot of players retiring about the same time, with us ending up with a pretty inexperienced team.

I'll give you my bank account number & you can send me some of those ten of thousands then :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes: unfortunately all coaches tend to be too bloody loyal to players, so keep them on well past their best.

@Frank he doesnt look like he carries much fat, so I reckon he could put on 5 easily without compromising much to his game

That said, I think he will end up as one of those unlucky guys that just never quite makes it, without a doubt good enough, just in such a competitive position and unlucky timing (think if he hadnt been injured in 2020? he'd have made it)

He is probably an injury away. But it’s a difficult position when young players have been selected ahead of him now. Still hope he makes it.

Honest question, what do we want from the AB's in 2022/23? How do they evolve to match the strengths of the NH teams and SA. How do we combat the rush defence, low error rates and suffocating play that is so effective against us.

I simply cannot see how the Foster led 2019-2021 ABs can magically change without some fundamental changes.

I'm really interested in the science tho.

Should we be looking for halfbacks with bigger hands because it means they can pass better, or will the extra weight slow them down too much?

What about kickers with bigger eyes so they can see the posts better?

Honestly I just want them to simplify the gameplan, we have so much talent in the backline that if our forwards can gain any sort of parity not many teams will be able to stay with us. That means in the early exchanges we play a lot tighter, keep ball in hand and use some of our dominant runners like Samisoni and Akira in close to get a bit of go forward. We just so often play headless chicken rugby because the players appear to be told to play a "fast game" which involves slinging it wide and running it from stupid places, putting ourselves under pressure and leading to a high error rate. The idea is to run opposition teams off their feet but it just doesn't work anymore, the fitness and defensive structures of the top sides is too good now for that shit.

I simply cannot see how the Foster led 2019-2021 ABs can magically change without some fundamental changes.

I would love to hear from the strategists on the Fern of what gameplan and players can help us climb back to the top.

Buck had it simply, forwards to go forward, not fucking sideways. Work it from there

@Machpants That man talks a lot of sense, if the forwards are not going forward you will always struggle.

Some shifts to both the attacking and defensive shape would help a lot.

More picking and going in attack, more angled runners, more variety. Watching the standard pod attack where 9 biffs it out to a forward 10 metres from the ruck time and time again makes me want to rip my hair out.

In defense be far less passive - let's employ the rush defence ourselves - let's counter ruck - this passive 'soak' defence sucks.

@No-Quarter Totally agree, we have the talent, we just need to earn the right to unleash it.
