Should have rescheduled tomorrow's game with agreement from the other club - we're missing about 20 through injury and fucking Defence Rugby, as well as the long weekend! A few guys will need to do double-duty. And it is likely to rain! Hindsight is lovely.
Still, the ground is in great nick, having just come out of oversowing in time for tomorrow
-
congrats @NTA
we had a pretty successful day after a shit draw (bye first round, then long weekend bye and then first game against perennial finalists)..Wins to the 1s, 3's and womens, 2's and 4's close losses
-
ok, vent time, im helping out with other grade as we dont have managers, so was doing 3rd grade, firstly, we start 5mons late because the ref is late...he then goes on to have a below average....so average...game.....we're down by 1 with about 7 min left, have them pinned 5m out from their own line and he missed this HUGE knock on...they regather and break downfield into out half, we're scrambling and get penalised, they kick to go up by 4...we sprint back for the kickoff....and he blows it up...more than 5min early!...game needed to be done by 130 apparently.....he shouldnt have been fucking late then!

62 registered with another 3-5 on the way.
45 are confirmed or maybe for the weekend.
32 at training with half a dozen giving apologies.
.... the problem?
2 grades to fit them all in. It is, quite frankly, a weird place to be given the last 8 years of constant struggle. -
@NTA thats a good problem to have
when we got our unexpected influx last year we had to work very hard to keep them around, get the to buy into the being part of the club doesn't mean playing every week, still come down, cheer on the others, have some beers, have some fun
-
Agree it is a good problem to have. And my advice to the more husky lads is to develop a love for playing prop or hooker! Never short of game time there.
We can organise a game for a third grade but not every opponent is accommodating as to time and place, as they might be in another division and have constraints. Also the clubs who are fuckwits and just want to bash guys.
-
Second Grade were well in the game on Saturday, then decided to stop tackling and lost 45-24.
First Grade got towelled up 45-0 due to the opposition having what one of them called their best game of the season so far (Round 5).
Still, nothing like dicking them in the scrum:
-
Clean sweep for us although that included the women and colts being defaulted against and the 4's having a bye
bit of a debate going on in Melbourne as 2-3 clubs have defaulted their 3 teams a couple of times already this season due to low numbers, one of the other clubs president has/is going to write to RV to ask them to be relegated and the draw redone, i get it as those of us with good numbers have guys that have paid $400 to register and not playing much
its a weird position as im almost having to tell new people that come in if they try one of the other clubs they play ta a higher level.
-
@NTA we have more than one of our premiership winners from last year rocking up well into the season...and theyre saying the right thing....but you know theyre going to think twice if we make the play up through the grades...but we've had new guys who signed up in Jan and have shown commitment since then who i would not want to drop if it wasn't earnt
-
A local club in a division just above us is in deep shit - during a 53-0 flogging as the home side, they conceded two red cards and 3 yellow cards and were accused of eye gouging and various other crimes.
The ref, who I know to be a solid operator, threatened to call the game off if behaviour didn't improve, but it was line ball pretty much after that.
Doesn't help that the away team are known to have a feral sideline; the ref at one point called the away Skipper over and asked him to address his supporters.
-
There's potential upside for us; I've been wondering how to approach some of the players at the home side as the y're just up the road.
Most of the players, some of whom are ex-Renegades, can go and get fucked, but there are a couple of tight forwards I'd be keen to see in our colours
-
the old story "registrations are closed.....tight forwards always welcome", i know it well

Born this century and play front row...

funny but not uncommon story from the weekend, big injury toll currently and a few people away so even with 160 registered players we were very light in 3's and 4's....put out a call to old players, guys that couldn't commit to the whole season or whatever, cue messages from guys that have played on and off for maybe a decade...."can i buy socks?"....."how do you register?"...."where is "X" club again?"..."whats time do the 3s play again?"......the fact the answer to the last three questions hasn't changed in more than a decade....and yet they still have to ask....might explain why they've lost their socks!

We had a guy we called Master of (Sock) Puppets because he must have had a fucking collection of close to 20. Most of the Islanders didn't get the Metallica reference.
I realise rugby isn't top of mind for a lot of these guys, but I do wonder how they stumble through life.
And it gives me confidence I could quit my job and things would just work out.
